2023 Travel: 12U Tryout

Travel 12U Tryouts

This year’s 12-year-old travel tryouts will be held on Monday, April 3rd from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Webster Hill Elementary School.

Our Summer Travel teams are intended for players interested in a deeper commitment to the game of baseball. We will also offer a local Summer League with a lighter schedule and no travel requirements. The Spring season will still be the top priority through mid-June for all players who make a Travel team. Please wear your spring jerseys to this tryout. We hope to form 2 teams at the 12U level:

  • 12U District Hornets Team – Managed by Kyle Jeter (kyle@jeter.com)
  • 12U Travel Team – Manager to be named later

Miscellaneous/Common Questions

Family Summer Plans – Unless you will be gone for a significant part of the summer, you should consider trying out. Vacation plans will be factored into the selection process and some teams will play a more demanding schedule than others.

Teams are not “Set in Stone” from the Prior Year – Players from last years’ teams are not guaranteed spots. All interested players should try out. A lot of development and maturation occurs year to year. Positional play and individual skills are very important. The Travel Selection Committee will take these into account when picking the teams.

Selection Committee – There is a Selection Committee for this tryout that will select teams. Committee members will utilize the tryout and previous performance to make final selections.

Announcement of Teams – Teams will be announced via email within 72 hours after the tryout.

Season Schedule – 12U District and 12U Travel will play or practice 4-5 days per week from mid-June through early August. 12U District will attend a tournament at Cooperstown Dreams Park in Cooperstown, NY from June 15-21. Other tournaments may include a Memorial Day Tournament, the Al Leonard Tournament in Bethel, Ripken States, our annual Hungerford Tournament in West Hartford, and other local tournaments.

Cost – The 12U District team fee will be approximately $2,100, which includes an all-inclusive player package for Cooperstown (player lodging, meals, uniforms for the week, etc.). We will have payment plans available to break up this fee into installments. The 12U Travel team fee will be approximately $400. The fee covers jerseys, hats, tournament registration fees, umpires, baseballs, and other miscellaneous expenses.

Scholarships – We understand that the cost of travel baseball can impose a hardship on some families. We do not want anyone not to try out or play due to financial issues. Please contact Travel Vice President Kyle Jeter if you need financial assistance.

Please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions.
