2020-2021 MBGLL/US Lacrosse Rules Q and A - 2020 Online Version

MBGLL hosted an online Rules Q. and A. with Judy and Dave Peters, certified US Lacrosse officials and members of the Eastern Massachusetts Women's Lacrosse Umpire Association (EMWLUA).  This was an opportunity for coaches to learn about the 2020 US Lacrosse and MBGLL rules.  At the end of this session, coaches are asked to view the MBGLL Rules Card and to answer a quick set of questons.

Lax Learner Award - Feel inspired to learn as much as possible.  In this learning badge for U11, you will have an open mind and try to play offense, defense, and goalie (1 game, scrimmage or practice) throughout the season.
 
Helping Hands badge – Many hands make light work.  In this learning pin for U11, you will shag balls at the end of eight (8) different practices. 
 
 
Trixter – Having fun while learning lacrosse is what it is all about.  In this U11 pin challenge, you will show off four different stick tricks to your teammates throughout the season.
 
 
Lax Snack Packer – In this U11 learning pin, you will prepare the team snack for 3 games or practices.
 
 
Scooper – Scoop up those ground balls before your opponent.  In this U11 learning pin challenge, you will run 10 feet and scoop up a ball on the right side of your body with the right hand on the top of your stick.  Repeat with the ball on the left side of your body and your left hand at the top of your stick.  This is one repetition.  Do this 1,000 times, tracking your progress on paper.  Upload your tracker to MBGLL.
 
 
Community Steward – In this U11 pin, you will pick up trash at the field after six (6) different practices or games.
 
 
Artist – In this U11 pin challenge, you will draw a lax-inspired picture and write a couple of sentences as to why you like the sport of lacrosse.  You will grant MBGLL permission to share this with the greater MBGLL community.
 
 
Wall Baller – For this U11 pin, you will throw the ball against a wall 1,000 times with your right hand on top of your stick and 1,000 times with your left hand on top of your stick.  Use the Snypr app to keep track or record it on paper. 
 
Popcorn Maker – In this U11 pin challenge, you will pop the ball up and back into your stick 1000 times on the front and 1000 on the back of your crosse with each hand on the top of your stick.  Track the number of pop-up catches you make each session and upload the tracker.

Helping Hands badge – Many hands make light work.  In this learning pin challenge for U13, you will shag balls, collect all equipment, gather extra practice pinneys, and help carry everything to the coach’s car at the end of ten (10) different practices. 
 
 
Trixter – Having fun while learning lacrosse is what it is all about.  In this U13 learning pin challenge, you will show off six (6) different stick tricks (including three (3) led with your non-dominant hand, to your teammates throughout the season.
 
 
Lax Culture Promoter – For this U13 pin, you will organize a team gathering to include snacks and watching lacrosse.
 
 
Community Steward – For this U13 pin, you will pick up trash at the field after eight (8) different practices or games.
 
 
Practice Leader – In this U13 pin challenge, you will work with your coach to develop a team stick-work drill that you will teach to your teammates.  You will lead this drill at least four times throughout the season.
 
 
Story Writer – In this U13 pin challenge, you will write a story about a great experience that you had playing lacrosse.  You will also draw a picture to go along with your story and grant MBGLL permission to share this with the greater community.
 
 
Lax Dancer – To earn this U13 pin, you will choreograph and perform a dance (minimum 1 min. long) while incorporating your lacrosse stick and ball into the routine.  For added fun, have a friend or your entire team join you and create a lax dance challenge.  If you post this on social media, use #mbgll and #mbgllfun (@mbgll) and let us know where you have posted it.  You will have participants sign a release granting MBGLL permission to share the video with the greater MBGLL community and you will send a copy of the video to MBGLL.
 
 
Cheer Leader – In this U13 pin challenge you will write a positive team cheer that inspires your teammates on the field without negatively affecting the opposing team.  You will teach your teammates the cheer and lead it during at least two different games.  You will submit a copy of your cheer and grant MBGLL permission to share it.
 
 
Wall Baller – For this U13 pin you will throw the lax ball against a wall 2,000 times with your right hand on top of your stick and 2,000 with your left hand on top of your stick.  Track your throws via the Snypr App or on paper.

Advanced Skillster – Striving to improve your lacrosse skills is important as you prepare for playing at high school.  In this pin challenge, you will participate in continuing lacrosse education such as a player clinic, on-line training, etc. You will submit a certificate of completion to MBGLL.
 
 
Lax Practice Leader – In this U15 pin challenge, you will work with your coach to develop an offense, defense, and team stick-work drill that you will then teach to your teammates. 
 
 
Story Writer – In this U15 pin challenge you will write a story about how playing lacrosse has helped you to grow on and off of the field.  You will also include a picture or drawing that relates to your story. You will grant MBGLL permission to share your story.

Song Writer – For this U15 pin you will write a musical song about fun times while playing lacrosse.  Your song will include at least three different skills that you learned on and off of the field.  You will record this song and grant MBGLL permission to share it with the greater MBGLL community.
 
 
Coach Reporter – In this U15 pin challenge, you will interview different coaches and write a story as to why they are dedicating their time to teaching lacrosse.  You will grant MBGLL permission to share your story.
 
Player Reporter – To earn this U15 pin, you will interview different players and write a story as to the fun they are having while participating in lacrosse. You will grant MBGLL permission to share your story.
 
 
Videographer – You will create a video, chalk-talk, or other digital media vehicle describing how playing lacrosse helps players grow off of the field in order to earn this pin.  You will grant MBGLL permission to share your video.
 
Influencer – For this lax pin you will create three (3) social media posts for MBGLL about why other players in MBGLL’s league should work towards these badges.
 
 
Promoter – In this pin challenge you will help promote your town’s lacrosse program to younger generations, encouraging them to try a sport that you love – lacrosse.  This could include designing flyers, class presentation, calling parents, writing an article for your local newspaper, etc. You will upload your work to MBGLL and hereby grant MBGLL permission to share your work with the greater MBGLL community.

Congratulations!  You are signing up to earn a
U15 MBGLL Lax Player Badge.
 
 
 
If you have completed 90% of the available U15 badges and are a U15 player, you are invited to complete a legacy project.  In this project you will work with your family, friends, and lacrosse leadership to develop a project that can be handed down year after year.  Examples may include:
  • Building team benches
  • Clearing an area of brush as a team practice area
  • Planting a shady area near a field
  • Etc. 

See what is needed in your town and make this the lacrosse legacy that you hand down from year to year.

Upon completion, you will create a vlog describing your idea, how you planned for, and implemented, it, and how it will have a lasting impact on lacrosse in your town.  You will grant MBGLL permission to share your vlog.  You will also create a digital recording of the different steps along the way, again granting MBGLL permission to share this.

MBGLL will feature your Vlog on its social media platforms.  This is your moment to shine!
