Reagan Lacrosse is a proud supporter of the
St. Baldrick’s Foundation!

St. Baldrick’s raises awareness and funds for childhood cancer research.  Reagan Lacrosse became involved with St. Baldrick’s in early 2013. That year, brothers Wyland & Coda Harris joined the middle school and youth teams.  The boys had been participants with St. Baldrick’s for several years.  They raise money each year for St. Baldrick’s, and then shave their heads in solidarity with the kids who are battling childhood cancer. Their motto has always been “kids helping kids.”  When the Harris family approached the Reagan Lacrosse board about sharing what they were doing with their teams, the board enthusiastically agreed.  The Harris family didn’t know it at the time, but the Reagan Lacrosse community was quite familiar with the impact of childhood cancer.

Christian Duran, a defenseman on the Reagan Lacrosse HS team, has a twin named Dominic.  In December of 2012, Dominic was diagnosed with Stage IIb testicular cancer two weeks after their seventeenth birthday.  Dominic had the tumor removed just days after diagnosis and then underwent six rounds of weeklong chemotherapy over the course of several months.
About 25 of Dominic's friends and classmates came to visit Dominic on the eve of  his first chemotherapy treatment.  They shaved their heads in a show of support  for what Dominic was going to face.  Approximately 15 childhood friends from El  Paso, where Dominic grew up, also shaved their heads while we watched on        Skype. He eventually had to withdraw from school and steer clear from public    places due to his compromised immune system, but the memories of his friends'  show of support gave him solace during those long months.
As his treatment became more grueling, Dominic became more resolute to  succeed.  He pushed harder than ever, improving his GPA and school  rank.  Dominic will graduate Summa Cum Laude in June 2014 from Reagan High  School!

In 2014, the Reagan Lacrosse Board approved a motion to make the St. Baldrick’s Foundation one of its official charities that the club endorses and supports.  We invite all players and families to join us in supporting that seeks to find a cure for childhood cancer. As an organization, and a club, our mission is to support grow the sport of lacrosse and help shape the lives of young men and women, both on and off the field.  Reagan LAX Gives Back, and community service, are a key component of that mission.
For more information about the St. Baldrick’s Foundation (and or to register as a shave  or volunteer) please visit their website. If you would like to contribute to Wyland or  Coda’s fundraising efforts directly, please click on their names.  To contribute to  Dominic’s fundraising efforts, visit his Live Strong Like Dom page.

Reagan Lacrosse provides big assist to local Habitat For Humanity San Antonio build!

On October 19, 2013, twenty-four Reagan Lacrosse players and parents descended on a Habitat for Humanity house build in southwest San Antonio.  The house build is sponsored by the Knights of Columbus Council 9967 of Holy Trinity Catholic Church here in Stone Oak.  The build was behind schedule and the call went out for additional workers to help get it back on track- and Reagan Lacrosse answered the call!

Mr. John Ly, of Holy Trinity, coordinated the build efforts with RLA, and was very appreciative of, and pleasantly surprised by, the turnout.  The homeowner, Carol, stated that “it was awesome having the boys here, they really worked hard and we got a lot done.”  She thanked us many times for being there to support her work on her future home.  The project foreman for Habitat had his hands full with the rowdy bunch, but kept us focused on the tasks at hand, and was equally impressed by the amount of work that was completed- including completion of the roof, painting of all interior doors and exterior trim, and installation of 75% of the exterior fascia on the home.

It was a banner day for Reagan Lacrosse as these young men stepped off the playing field to give of their time in supporting their community.  It was a great day of hard work, team building and yes, the young men had some fun in the process!

Nice going RLA!
