6U Program
Spring 2023 will be the eigth season our CYA Boys Program will be fielding squads for our young laxers. The objective of the program is to provide young players with an opportunity to learn the wonderful game of lacrosse under the watchful eye of experienced coaches.
Our weekly 6U sessions will consist of skills instruction and mini-games, with intrasquad scrimmages where the boys can demonstrate all they've learned.
8U and 10U Program: Modified Fields
Our 8U and 10U programs will participate in a Modified Field program using a 7v7 format on a smaller field, with the intention of getting eac hplayer more touches, and therefore more experience and more fun. NVYLL will track CYA 10U win/loss record and score, and lead to placement in the Spring 2023 NVYLL tournament. Placement on the CYA 10U Boys squad will be determined based on Spring evaluations (see below).
"A" Team Policy
CYA Boys Lacrosse "A" Teams represent the most skilled and competitive players within each age bracket. In consideration of teammates, any player that does not play lacrosse as their primary spring sport might not qualify for an "A" team, regardless of the results of their player assessment. If a player must frequently miss practices and/or games due to participation in another sport or activity, CYA Lacrosse reserves the right to place that player on a different team to free a spot on the "A" team for a player that can fully participate.
Practices
CYA Boys Lacrosse teams will practice 2-3 times a week at local fields once teams are formed in mid-February throughout the season based on facility availability and coaches schedules.
Equipment
Each player needs a helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, gloves, stick, mouthpiece and cleats. An athletic supporter is also highly recommended. You may rent the helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, and gloves for the season based on the prices above. This can be a cost effective way to evaluate the game, and may keep you from buying new equipment as your son grows out of current. A $200 deposit check is required to rent equipment, this check is not cashed and returned to you once the equipment is returned at the end of the season.
You must provide the stick, mouthpiece and cleats. You can purchase sticks at local sporting goods stores or from specialty lacrosse stores, or even online. Goalie equipment is provided by CYA.
