The ATOMS program is an initiation or introductory program to teach new players who are 7 years old and younger, the basic skills needed to play on a recreational team.
The practices are twice per week for one hour and fifteen minutes each. There are no out of town games. Special POND HOCKEY slots are available throughout the season. Each practice will be conducted cross-ice with multiple coaches, teaching stations and small area games. The program is broken up into two phases; the length of each phase depends on when we get ice and when we lose ice in Los Alamos. Each Phase is constructed from recommended practice plans prescribed by the USA Hockey Initiation Program. All ATOMS coaches are trained and certified in the Initiation Program Curriculum. Student coaches from upper age divisions are being encouraged to assist on the ice with demonstrations and drill progression.
Registration for the first phase is $35. The second phase is an additional $25. Participant jerseys are included with registration. Participants are required to purchase a reduced fee Los Alamos County Youth Hockey Season Pass for ATOMS. Most of the gear required may be rented from LAHA.
The program will focus on FUN while developing basic hockey skills and an enjoyment of the sport.
