What is the game and practice schedule at this level?

Teams begin practices in March and games on Opening Weekend in early April. The season ends in mid- to late June. Teams have practice once per week, typically on a weeknight or Sunday afternoon; there will be two practices per week (one on a weeknight, one on a weekend day) during the preseason if fields are available. All games are played on Saturday mornings or afternoons; game schedules will be made available in late March or early April. Games typically last approximately 1.25 hours. 

When will I hear from a coach?

Teams are formed in March to enable preseason practices.

What’s the difference between the A level and Rookies? Who plays which level?

The A division is intended as an introduction to more competitive rules of play, as scores are kept, outs are recorded on the bases, and players strike out at the plate rather than having a tee brought out after missing a certain number of pitches. Otherwise, it is very similar to the Rookies level with coaches pitching.  A first grade player must have previously played Rookies in the spring to play at the A level.

What does a typical game look like?

Coaches pitch a soft, safety ball to players. Every player bats and plays the field in each inning.  Players begin to learn the concept of outs, strikeouts, and ends of innings. Coaches serve as umpires. Basic skills are enhanced as position play becomes more emphasized.

What does my player need?

The league provides a team t-shirt and a hat for each player, as well as a tee, helmets, catcher’s gear, and bats at each game.  Players at this level need their own glove, and will need to bring their own water, juice, etc. to each game.  Cleats and baseball pants are not required, but should be worn at this level.

What else is required?

Your participation as a parent.  Even if you don’t step up as a head coach, parents must be present at these games.  Helping players learn how and where to throw the ball, and which direction to run and when to run there is a full team effort.  More importantly, it really is fun!
