Clinic Descriptions
 
[Equipment needed: Please bring appropriate equipment to each clinic: baseball glove, baseball hat, bat (for hitting clinics - a few will be provided), athletic supporter and protective cup, baseball pants, sneakers.  NO metal cleats allowed.]
 
Pitching
Beginner*:  This clinic is for players who have very little experience, if any.  Players will learn:
  • basic grips (4 seam fastball) on the baseball
  • proper throwing mechanics
  • basic mechanics for pitching from the wind-up
    - rocker step
    - pivot
    - balance point
    - stride
    - release 
*Parents or guardians are required to attend these clinics to assist their player and learn the mechanics themselves to reinforce at home.  So, the parent or guardian must bring a glove as well.
 
Intermediate:  This clinic is for players who have had some experience pitching.  Players will learn:
  • Fastball (4 and 2 seams), change-up, slider grips on the baseball
  • proper throwing mechanics
  • proper mechanics for pitching from the wind-up
    - rocker step
    - pivot
    - balance point
    - stride
    - release
  •  working with different pitches for different batters and pitch counts
  • pitcher fielding practice
 
Advanced: This clinic is for players who have had experience pitching in several games.  Players will learn:
  • fastball (4 and 2 seams), change-up, curveball, slider grips on the baseball
  • proper throwing mechanics
  • proper mechanics for pitching from the wind-up
    - rocker step
    - pivot
    - balance point
    - stride
    - release
  • working with different pitches for different batters and pitch counts
  • painting the corners
  • pitcher fielding practice
 
Hitting
 
Beginner:  This clinic is for players who are new to the game and/or have difficulty making contact with the ball.  Players will learn:
  • proper grip on the bat
  • comfortable stance
  • swinging mechanics
  • use of a tee
  • soft toss
  • live batting practice
  • base running
 
Intermediate:  This clinic is for players who have played baseball before and want to work on form and tweaking their hitting..  Players will learn:
  • proper grip on the bat
  • comfortable stance
  • swinging mechanics
  • use of a tee - inside, outside pitches
  • soft toss
  • live batting practice
  • difference in pitch counts
  • hitting offspeed pitches when needed
  • base running
 
Advanced:  This clinic is for players who have played a lot of baseball before and want to work on form and tweaking their hitting and learning advanced techniques of hitting.  Players will learn:
  • proper grip on the bat
  • comfortable stance
  • swinging mechanics
  • use of a tee - inside, outside pitches
  • soft toss
  • live batting practice
  • knowing and working the count
  • hitting offspeed pitches when needed
  • hit and run
  • hitting behind the runner
  • base running
Fielding
 
Beginner:  This clinic is for the player who has had limited time playing baseball or has never played.  The player will learn:
  • proper throwing and catching mechanics
  • proper footwork when fielding and throwing a ball - infield and outfield
  • fly balls
  • ground balls
  • basic position knowledge
 
Intermediate:  This clinic is for the player who has had some time playing baseball, but wants to work on improving basic skills and learning a few more.  The player will learn:
  • proper throwing and catching mechanics
  • proper footwork when fielding and throwing a ball
  • position knowledge
  • outfield balls
    - 3 types of approach
    - drop step
    - crow hop
    - throw through cut-offs
  • infield balls
    - footwork
    - backhands
    - double plays
    - position knowledge
 
Advanced: This clinic is for the player who has good amount of experience with baseball and wants to work on improving skills and learning more advanced.  The player will learn:
  • proper throwing and catching mechanics
  • proper footwork when fielding and throwing a ball
  • position knowledge
  • outfield balls
    - 3 types of approach
    - drop step
    - crow hop
    - throw through cut-offs
  • infield balls
     - footwork
     - backhands
     - double plays
     - trouble plays
  • position knowledge
 
Coaching Clinics
 
Beginner:  This clinic is for the beginner coach who has some or no coaching experience.  The coach will learn:
  • Coaching theory
    - player interaction/management
    - parent interaction/management
  • Practice setup
  • Utilization of assistant coaches
  • Utilization of team parents
  • Station use
  • Placement of players in correct positions
  • Line-up creation
  • List of basic skills needed by the players
  • Question and Answer period
 
Intermediate:  This clinic is for the coach who has had some experience, but wants to further his coaching skills by picking up new techniques.  The coaches will learn:
  • Coaching theory
    - player interaction/management
    - parent interaction/management
  • Practice setup
  • Station use - more advanced skills
  • List of more advanced skills needed by the players
  • Question and Answer period
Advanced:  This clinic is for coaches with a lot of experience to get together and share ideas with each other of what works and what does not.  The coaches will discuss what we can do as a program to increase the level of competition, coaching, and communication within Little League.  Beginner and Intermediate coaches are welcome to come and participate to gather knowledge from our very experienced coaches to help them with their own teams.
