September 11th
Fall Travel Softball kicked off with a Milton U12 and aMilton U14 team competing in the Easton Fall Softball League. Games are played on Sunday morning for 5 weeks followed by playoffs. On Sunday, 9/11, the U12 team swept Randolph by scores of 9-7 and 9-8 while U14 swept West Bridgewater by scores of 9-8 and 12-11.
In Game 1, Milton U12's Shannon F. led the effort on the mound (5IP, 10K, 8R) providing some offensive power (2 hits) along with Kate M. (2 hits) and Reilly H. (2 hits). DefensivelyShea R. made a nice line drive catch at shortstop whileElizabeth M. caught a line drive at first base. The big defensive play of the game was a towering flyball catch by Kate M. to end a rally in the 4th inning.
Game 2 was led by Milton U12's Maggie W. (4IP, 4K, 7R). The offense featured a balanced attack with 9 different players scoring a run. Solid hits by Shea R., Kate M., Kristin R. andShannon F. The web gems included two strong plays at the mound by Maggie W. for putouts; Kate M. (Catcher) toMaggie W. for a tag out at the plate; Kristin R. making a nice play at third and firing to first for the out and Emma K. fielding a hard hit ball at second base for the 4-3 putout to end the game.
IN THE U14 GAMES IT WAS JUST AS EXCITING.....
In Game 1, Milton rallied from deficits of 5-0 and 6-5 in last inning to overtake West Bridgewater. Krissy M. hit a rocket to deep left for a triple bringing home Andrea J. to tie the game. Krissy scored on a wild pitch one later for the walk off win as the Bridgewater team tried to pitch around clean up hitter Julia M. Julie H. (4 IP, 7 R, 5K) pitched a complete game for the win allowing only 2 runs over last 3 innings with 5 Ks. Mary A.started a double play to close out the third inning. Julia and McKenzie D. had RBI singles.
Andrea J., Molly C., Krissy M., and Caitlyn M. all scored runs for the Impact. Maddy B. and Olivia F. were robbed of hits by the slick fielding WB pitcher.
In Game 2, Milton jumped out to an early lead and held on for another dramatic 12-11 victory over WB in nightcap. WBs comeback attempt was stifled by the Wildcats on last play of game. Julie came in to pitch to opposing clean up hitter who battled to a 3-2 count, then hit a rope to shortstop Olivia F., who snared it on a great play and flipped to Andrea at 3rd for second double play of day and final out.
Caitlyn (3 IP, 8 R, 1 K) was winning pitcher, with McKenzie D. geting the save (1 IP, 3 R, 1 K). Andrea, Molly, Krissy, Julia, Olivia, Maddy, and Mary scored runs for Milton. Mary, McKenzie, and Julia (double) had key hits.
The Milton defense had an excellent day with 2 double plays and only two errors spread across both games. Even when WB got hits, Milton mowed them down, with three runners eliminated on base paths.
September 25th
The U12-FitzGerald team traveled to Easton to take on Stoughton. It was Stoughton in both games, with U12-FitzGerald falling by scored of 8-2 and 15-0.
October 2nd
All games rained out.
October 9th and 10th
The only thing hotter than the weather was the U12-FitzGerald team as they pulled off a rare double-double. Two sweeps on consecutive days. On Sunday, U12-FitzGerald beat Easton 14-2 and 14-10. The winning ways continued on Monday (makeup games from last Sunday's washout) with wins of 14-0 and 8-6 against Norton.
October 23rd
Milton U12-FitzGeraldearned a #2 seed and took on #7 seed Norton in the opening round of the playoffs. Milton controlled the game from the outset led by pitchers Shannon F. and Maggie W. throwing a no hitter. Milton U12 10, Norton 0.
#2 Milton U12-FitzGeraldbattled against #3 E. Bridgewater in the semifinals. Milton found itself down 3-2 after entering the bottom of the second. It would be the last time Milton U12-FitzGerald would trail as they rattled off 12 more runs to take the win 14-6.
#2 Milton U12-FitzGerald matched up against #1 Stoughton. It was a pitching duel from the get-go with both sides pitching well and playing strong defense. Stoughton edged Milton U12-FitzGerald 4-2 to take the Fall Travel Championship.
