Treasurer’s report- Ed O’Connor was absent; no report given.
Registration- Linda DeMilt made available the most recent numbers in regards to players and league. The league is currently running about 30 kids behind previous years numbers across all divisions. Registration is particularly low for boys AAA division and girls softball majors. Linda notes that all managers should report their team lineups and designated coaches to her as soon as possible after teams are formed. Any adults who need to have background checks done will be notified.
Player Agent- Holly reported that all is quiet.
Softball- Ron Russell reported that the clinics are up and running smoothly. Registration for Minors is looking good. Will have 3 teams in majors, but registration for younger ages is encouraging. League is considering team selection procedures for minors, and are planning for majors draft next week.
Baseball-Rick Betz reported on the successful draft of 8 teams in majors. All teams have had their first workouts. Randy K reports that Minors hopes to get 8 teams of 11 players each after calling up some 9’s, and hopes for some late registrations. Manager selection is underway. Chris T reported that T-ball teams are being formed and he is comfortable with the registration numbers. We expect to have only 6 teams in AAA.
Bob Sacco reported that clinics are going well and we are going to take a few kids off the wait list. Bob also reported that we will be scheduling an in-person program from the “positive coaching alliance.” Books associated with this group will be distributed to the coaches in the league.
Chris T reported on a suggestion that the league have managers fill out a survey or report at the end of the season to give feedback to the league about how the season went and giving suggestions for the future. All teams should have at least one (if not more) coaches attend the Al & Al clinic on March 15th. Registration is available on the web site.
Umpires – Kevin reports that youth umpire registration has been very good, with 39 new umpires registered, along with 19 returning veterans. The umpire training clinic will begin on 2/20/08.
Movie Night. Ellen reports that plans are in the works to have a movie night at Ward, subject to determinations about cost. Stay tuned for more information.
Sponsorship Ellen noted that sponsorships are still available. All majors and minors teams are accounted for.
Equipment Dan and Rob report that all is on schedule. Bags will be distributed to majors teams soon. Coordinators will be notified when bags are ready for each division.
Safety Report. None. Note that District 12 Safety Clinics will be on March 12 ( Nottingham ) and March 22 (HTRBA). All teams are encouraged to have at least one coach attend training clinic.
Merchandise Report Ellen reports that merch is up on the web site.
Big Brother/Big Sister. We have set up a new registration system on the web site and have 10-12 kids signed up.
Pitch, Hit, and Run. Ellen reports that the program will happen this year. Alan Feryus is coordinating.
Hosting post-season 10s. The league is hosting the final 9 for the District 12 tournament for 10-year-olds this year. We will be soliciting volunteers!
Indoor Facility- Bob Sacco suggested that the league should post a sign inside the indoor informing users that one batting cage needs to be freed up for use by individuals who want to take batting practice. Normally the iron mike farthest against the wall should be used. Any person using the indoor for team practice should give up a cage if somebody comes in (using their private card). A note will be sent out to all the non-WWLL users to this effect. Note that Sharon Davis will be taking over the scheduling of indoor time from Randy Kertes.
TrentonThunder Day. May 16th will be our day this year. Tickets are on sale via the web site.
Website- Ellen, Justin and Andrew have been working diligently on updating our website. Any suggestions about the web site can be submitted to Ellen.
Summer Ball. Chris reports that there will soon be meetings to determine whether to continue last summer’s inaugural summer ball program. Anyone with comments or input should contact Chris.
