We are a youth football and cheer program for kids. We are located on Route 1 in Alexandria, Virginia 22306. We are located at Gum Springs Community Center and our name is Gum Springs Youth Athletic Association (GSYAA).
Gum Springs Youth Athletic Association (GSYAA) has provided the participants with experiences to learn great sportsmanship, leadership, integrity and pride. The Cheer squads shall serve as support groups for the athletic program within GSYAA; thus, playing a very important role in athletic/activity contests. Each squad shall strive to boost spirit, promote good sportsmanship, develop good positive crowd involvement, and help participants and spectators achieve Panther Pride.
Being the most visible and recognizable representatives of GSYAA, cheer squads are in a position of great influence, therefore, high standards of conduct are essential. Positive personal behavior and squad cohesiveness demonstrates these standards. Appropriate behavior will help earn the respect, which is the core of developing effective spirit and Panther Pride.
Cheer squad activities should center on “leading” or “directing” the cheering of the fans. In this role, cheer squads can become GSYAA’s most effective leaders. These activities shall be focused on by creating a cooperative spirit among the cheer squad members, athletics, and the community, recognizing outstanding plays and good sportsmanship on the part teams; and aiding the game officials in the promotion of good sportsmanship and in the administration of the contest.
Performing is a secondary role of the entire cheer team, yet can effectively promote spirit when included at appropriate times at pep rallies, competitions, and assemblies. Participants must condition, practice, and warm up the same as other athletes in preparation for a performance.
