The MABLL was founded in 1975 by Byron Snyder who was a fan of the Maryland Arrows of the original National Lacrosse League. The league began play at the Bowie Ice Rink and moved to the College Park Ice Arena in 1978. In 1986, long time player Don West moved the league to Sports Network in Manassas, Virginia. In the fall of 2006, the league moved to the Dulles SportsPlex for one season and then moved to "The BOX" arena in the winter of 2006. In 2012 the league moved to Dulles SportsPlex.  In 2017, the league went on hiatus.

In 2021, the MABLL is back expanding to the Baltimore/DC/Virginia Corridor.  The box lacrosse lanscape has changed and there is more interest than ever.  The MABLL will continue to spread Canadian Box lacrosse to the Baltimore/DC Metro Area.  The  Box lacrosse has been a staple of the DC area's lacrosse community for over 35 years. The MABLL will also offer the MABLL Academy and will continue to provide leadership and direction in the fast growing game of "box lacrosse".

Box lacrosse is different from "Indoor Lacrosse" which is often a hybrid version of the field game. The MABLL is a competitive and instructional league dedicated to teaching the game with its proper Canadian and native history and not simply as an "off-season diversion" to field lacrosse.  If you are looking to learn and play a NEW game, we are the league for you.
