High Sierra Box Lacrosse is back, better than ever!
Box lacrosse is a close cousin to field lacrosse, with a great deal of skill crossover, but there are significant differences. Box is played at a fast pace, with more contact all over the floor (starting at a younger age).
This year, High Sierra Lacrosse will be introducing an improved box lacrosse program intended to optimize the experience for all participants. The format has been designed to ensure that players learn skills and concepts specific to the box lacrosse game from the best coaching, and with the best coach to player ratio, available. In order to do this, players must have the basic lacrosse fundamentals necessary to learn and play the box game safely. Additionally, we are looking to minimize group size and optimize our limited floor space and time.
All participants will need to have played at least one prior season of lacrosse, box or outdoor, to be eligible to register.
The 2020-21 format includes two distinct programs:
INTRODUCTION TO BOX--BOYS AND GIRLS
These six non-competitive sessions will teach the basic rules, strategies and concepts of box lacrosse play. Emphasis will be on skill development within a confined space and at a faster pace, and on understanding box-specific rules and scenarios. Participants in Introduction to Box must have at least one season of field or box lacrosse experience.
Note: Girls box lacrosse is essentially the same as the boys box game, similar to the way girls hockey is identical to boys hockey. Girls box lacrosse played with the same equipment and rules as the boys.

Girls Introduction to Box
Boys Introduction to Box
These ten sessions are designed for advanced players with box or significant field lacrosse experience. 20-22 players will be accepted onto each team, with approximately 17 per age group (based on ability) asked to attend two box tournaments this winter as the High Sierra Avalanche. Registration is by invitation only.
