Figure Skating Update
We are looking forward to welcoming back all Figure Skaters and our coaches this Fall. We are hopeful that our new "normal" post-COVID-19 will allow for all our planned events and classes to run as scheduled and are planning accordingly.
As always, the program will follow the Club calendar and will run from November through the first weekend in March (weather dependent, of course). We will have the same class offerings as we did last season, and classes can be found on our website. The very popular Cookie Exchange will take place in early December. The annual competition against New Canaan Winter Club will be held in New Canaan in early February. We will wrap up the season with our Year-End Show, whose theme will be announced later in the season. Our banquet will be held in early April 2021 to celebrate the season.
This past season, our program was bursting with enthusiastic skaters, eager new and returning junior pros and our seasoned pros. Under the supervision of Kris Birkeland, the pros planned a program that allowed each skater to advance at their own pace, to learn that hard work pays off, that practice makes perfect, and the importance of working together and respecting each other on the ice and in the locker room. These are all valuable lessons that the skaters can transition to any sport, hobby, or job they take on as they grow up. As the season came to an end, there were a few outstanding skaters we would like to recognize as winners of our Annual Awards. They are as follows:
Peter J. Meyer Junior Figure Skating Award
This award is given to the youngest skater, who has shown outstanding improvement and dedication to figure skating.
Carly Seidel (2020)
Fay Hvizdak Award
This is given to a skater enrolling in the USFS free skate program who has shown outstanding improvement and dedication to figure skating.
Leighton Krueger (2020)
Jocelyn Birdsell Award
This award is given to skater in the USFS Compulsory and Free Skating program who demonstrates love and dedication to figure skating through perseverance, persistence, and enthusiasm.
Greta Fales (2020)
Charlene Von Saher Spirit Award
Given to a skater, coach, or parent who best exemplifies the spirit and enthusiasm of the figure skating program.
Meg Leary (2020)
We cannot thank you enough for all your hard work and dedication to our program. We look forward to welcoming back our pros and our skaters in the Fall!
