Overview

Players on the 2020-21 13u AAA Independent team will have a complete travel hockey experience and compete against elite level competition. Our primary goal is to create a fun and competitive environment where every player can develop their skills and a passion for the game. Our programming this season is highly focused on player development so that each player is equipped with the skills necessary to advance and excel at the next level. Review the Program Overview to learn more about our development program.

 

Head Coach Matt Murley

Matt Murley joins Perinton Youth Hockey's AAA program following a successful professional playing career. A native of Troy, New York, Murley grew up playing youth hockey in upstate New York and continued on to play college hockey at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI). He was drafted 51st overall in the 1999 NHL entry draft, and played three seasons for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Phoenix Coyotes. He’s been playing professionally in Europe since 2008, most recently for the Nuremberg Thomas Sabo Ice Tigers of the Deutsche Eishockey League (DEL) in Germany.

Practices:

  • Three-day training camp in August
  • Two full-ice practices per week @ Rochester Ice Center
  • One advanced skills development sessions per week by RIC Academy @ Rochester Ice Center [watch video clip]
  • Monthly goaltender training sessions
  • Monthly off-ice training sessions at Next Level Strength & Conditioning [watch video clip]

Games: 60+ total

  • 15 independent schedule games 
  • 40 tournament games throughout Ontario, New York, and surrounding region

  • Preseason team party
  • End of season team party
  • Volunteer and community event
  • Fundraising opportunities

Composition of team:

  • 13-15 skaters
  • 1-2 goaltenders

Budget Estimate:

  • Dues: $3,500-$4,500
  • Apparel and equipment not included
  • Tournaments and miscellaneous team expenses not included in dues (Approx. $1,000 -$1,500 per player)
