Livermore SMOKE is Livermore Girls Softball Association's (LGSA) competitive fastpitch softball travel team.


It is the goal of Livermore SMOKE to provide young women a positive and enjoyable experience, through competitive softball, to develop life-long skills, friendships, and a love for the game. We seek to help every Smoke player build self-confidence, good sportsmanship, leadership skills, and respect.






Practices are important in developing players. If a player is going to be absent, it is required that the parent communicate this with the Manager in advance. If you have difficulty getting your player to practice, please work with another family to arrange carpool. If players routinely miss practices, their playing time during games will be affected.


In order to maximize practices, players must give 100% of their effort to the practice. This requires players to arrive on time, with their cleats on, ready to practice.


  1. Players will hustle on and off the field and between stations;

  2. All equipment must be treated with respect and picked up at the end of practice; and

  3. All trash will be picked up before leaving the field or dugout.



It is important that both parents and players demonstrate good sportsmanship. It is equally important for players to support their teammates who are on the field and to learn from game time situations. In order to succeed the following guidelines apply:


  1. Players are to remain in the dugout during the game. The only time a player should not be in the dugout is if pitchers/catchers are warming up or a player is in the restroom;

  2. Players who are not playing in the field should keep a positive attitude and support teammates who are on the field;

  3. Players who are a DP/Flex player should be ready in case they are needed to sub in;

  4. Parents/Guardians should not coach players while they are in the dugout, on the field, or at bat;

  5. Parents/Guardians should not speak to players while they in the dugout;

  6. Team chants/cheers and spectator and coaches comments should not be derogatory or demeaning towards opposing teams/players/coaches;

  7. Parents/Guardians and coaches will be a positive role model for children. They will encourage good sportsmanship by showing respect and courtesy and by demonstrating positive support for all players, coaches, spectators, officials, and staff at every game, practice or league event;

  8. Spectators, coaches and players will not engage in any kind of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player or spectator such as booing, taunting, refusing to shake hands, or using profane language or gestures;

  9. Spectators, coaches and players will not encourage any behaviors or practices that would endanger the health and wellbeing of the athletes;

  10. Spectators and coaches should praise their team members for competing fairly, trying hard, and make the children feel like a winner every time, regardless of the score;

  11. The use of drugs, tobacco, and alcohol during youth sports is prohibited by City ordinance. Spectators, coaches and players will refrain from their use during and between games while at fields or softball complexes. During team activities, everyone is an ambassador of the league and should act appropriately.

  12. Parents, remember that all Managers and coaches are volunteers. Respect the fact that they are willing to give so much of their time to your child;

  13. Managers are held responsible for the conduct of their fans/spectators/team participants; and

  14. If spectators, players, and/or coaches fail to abide by the Code of Conduct, they will be subject to disciplinary action as decided by the SMOKE Manger and/or LGSA Board of Directors. Disciplinary action could include, but is not limited to: verbal warnings, written warnings, ejections, and suspensions for various lengths.


Playing time:

Livermore SMOKE plays in competitive tournaments in the Bay Area and beyond. Tournament schedules are set by Smoke managers. Travel softball is highly competitive; it is not recreational softball. There is no guaranteed or minimum playing time, particularly on championship Sundays. The Manager will attempt to give playing time to all players on Saturdays during pool play. Playing time is earned through ability, effort, attendance and attitude demonstrated at practice and games. Playing time is considered one or more of the following: hitting, pinch-hitting, base running and fielding. Infield and outfield playing time is not guaranteed.


Managers and coaches work with players to determine what position is best for each individual player. All players should be willing to and capable of playing multiple positions. Each player must work hard for their position.


Managers encourage open communication with parents regarding playing time for their individual players, however, we ask that those discussions be done in private and away from players at least 24 hours after the game or tournament you are concerned about. This allows parents/guardians to think things over and gather any questions they may have. This also helps minimize any tension or emotions one may have.


Code of Conduct:

  1. The LGSA Executive Board have the authority to remove or reprimand travel team personnel including board members, coaches, parents, spectators, and players whose conduct is deemed detrimental to the best interest of Livermore SMOKE. Any person reprimanded has the right of appeal and review before a quorum of the board within seven days;

  2. A player may be benched for a game for disciplinary action or for missing an excessive number of practices or games without good reason. She must be given a warning by the Manager or Travel Team Coordinator before being dismissed;

  3. Positive cheering is encouraged. Negative cheering will not be tolerated;

  4. No offensive or negative comments or profanity will be used towards or around any player, parent, volunteer, or umpire in any means. The Manager must take responsibility for the well-being and development of his/her players. Accept the reality that Managers serve as role models; as such, their actions must live up to their words. A Manager is the only person who should address the umpire;

  5. Managers, coaches and volunteers must refrain from direct physical contact with players (i.e., pats on the buttocks) that could be construed as sexual in nature. Work toward the best interests of their players by understanding issues of confidentiality and avoiding situations that could create conflicts of interest or could exploit any player; and

  6. Managers should provide a physically and emotionally safe environment for players during practice, as well as games.  Exemplify ethical behaviors, including honesty, integrity, fair play and sportsmanship. These are life-long lessons that take precedence over any emphasis on winning.  Any communication with the opposing team must be deemed positive.


Code of Conduct will be addressed when necessary. Actions will range from the following, but in no particular order:


1) Verbal Warning:  LGSA Board Member, Coach or Manager will discuss undesirable conduct with the person in question and stress that this behavior will not be tolerated;


2) Written Warning:  LGSA Board Member, Manger, Coach, Parent or Spectator will notify the LGSA Board of Directors by formally submitting a complaint form.  The LGSA Board of Directors will bring the person in question in for a meeting to discuss actions.  Furthermore there will be a formal letter of reprimand given to person(s) stating that the next offense could lead to being banned from the sporting event venue for a period of one or more games and or practices;


3) Game Suspension:  LGSA Executive Board will ban the person in question from attending the next scheduled contest.  Another letter will be given to them stating that the next offense will lead to being banned from the minimum of that sport's season up to an additional season; or


4) Season Suspension:  The person in question will be banned from attending a minimum of the remainder of that season to a maximum of the next season in which the incident took place.  They will then have to make a formal request to be reinstated into the league.  A meeting with the LGSA Board of Directors will occur prior to the start of the season to determine if they capable of behaving within the spirit and guidelines of LGSA.
