SYBSA/Town Of Sharon – 20XX* Father’s Day Tournament Selection Process
Team Selection
On or around June 1st, all team head managers (with input from assistant coaches) are asked to complete a team ballot where they will select players based on their performance during the regular season. They will take into consideration hitting, fielding, and pitching skills, in addition to their overall game knowledge. All ballots are treated equally and the same weighting.
All Managers in the Majors and Minors will each receive a ballot with all eligible players from each age group and will submit a team ballot which will include their top 12 players from opposing teams for each age group in their respective league.
Note: Since leagues have mixed ages, players in the higher level of the league will be considered before those in the lower – Minors’ coaches will provide 3 11YO for consideration that may or may not be taken based on the Majors selections.
We are trying to field our strongest teams possible. Therefore, our U-12 teams should include the best 12 players under the aged 12 and younger; then the next best 12 players under the age of 11, and continue this pattern until we have filled 4 teams (U-12, U-11, U-10, and U-9)
Example: Each Majors manager will select up to 12 players from each age group within Majors (10,11, and 12YO) from the ballot listing every eligible player. However, you can NOT select any player from your own team.
Each Minors manager will select up to 12 players from each age group within Minors (9 and 10YO) from the ballot listing every eligible player. However, you can NOT select any player from your own team. They will also rank their top 3 11YOs for consideration for a spot on the 11YO team.
Each AAA Manager will select up to 12 players from each age group within AAA (9YO) from the ballot listing every eligible player. However, you can NOT select any player from your own team.
All ballots are then confidentially submitted to the Player Agent who compiles all of the data and generates a consolidated report which contains the votes received for each of the players, grouped by age and by the team. The top 12 vote-getters for each team and by each age are then considered for representation. 3 additional players are named as ‘reserve players’, to fill any spots that become available due to the availability of players to play in the tournament.
If after determining the top vote-getters a roster is not completed, the manager may select up to two roster spots voted on by the lower league managers, on their team ballot, for a player to play “up” from their league but with their same-aged peers. However, in the best interest of competitiveness, this decision roster spot is ultimately decided by the manager.
After the roster is verified by the Player Agent and VP of Baseball, the selected individual players will be notified shortly thereafter by either the League Coordinator to verify participation in the 3-day weekend event. The reserve players become active if the 12 person roster is not filled due to availability and are notified.
If a player becomes unable to participate in the Father’s Day Tournament after this selection process, the manager, at their discretion, can fill the roster spots with any player within the eligibility criteria listed.
Playing Time
All rostered players shall play a minimum of three (3) full innings in the field and at least one plate appearance in each game
Roster Size
All Teams must carry a full roster of 12 players.
Eligibility
● All players in the spring season are eligible to play.
Manager Selection
The winning manager from the Little League season for Majors and Minors will be the manager representing a team in the Tournament. The Championship Manager will get to choose which team he would like to coach based on the ages in his league with players selected from his league.
If the winning manager selects the younger of the two eligible teams to manage, then the runner-up manager in the championship game is next considered.
If the runner-up manager in the championship game is chosen to be a bench coach for the winning manager then the other two coaches are eligible and a decision is made by the league coordinator to determine the manager. If there is no league coordinator, then the decision lies with the VP of Baseball.
If the winning manager is unable to participate in the Father’s Day Tournament, then the runner-up manager in the championship game is next considered.
The selected manager may choose his own coaching staff.
* This plan is subject to review and change on an annual basis due to the number of enrolled players and their ages.
