The goal of a competitive program within the IHRC is to create a balanced athletic development experience with support for kids and families in our community.
» Advanced coaching for player development
» Professional training from Coerver Academy and Professional Coaches (practices and games).
o Develops players by teaching individual skill and small group tactics.
o Team training engages a season-long program that begins with the individual player to develop skill and confidence and works out from there to address broader tactical themes.
» Two training sessions each week
» Local opportunities to enroll in Coerver winter training and/or assemble an indoor soccer or Futsal team
– Higher level of competition
– Over time, the Academy Program will be for Boys and Girls U9, U10, U11, U12, U13 and U14
– Teams will be formed by birth year, not school grade
» Depending on demand from players and families in each age group, may consolidate age groups in certain seasons – In the Pilot program in Spring 2019, we fielded 7 teams
» Ultimate decision on the formation of teams in each age group and each sex will be evaluated based on demand and skill level
Why? Survey results are consistent with anecdotal feedback
Our community has asked for a community-based youth soccer alternative that sits between the Recreational Program and Independent Club Programs
» Rec program is not meeting the needs of certain families and athletes, so our community is losing a large number of local players to Independent Club Programs each year
» Club programs have evolved into expensive, year-round commitments, which are often in conflict with budget constraints and other extracurricular interests
» The IHRC, a community-based non-profit entity, is responding to this need with the IH Soccer Academy
