2019 ADK YOUTH LACROSSE RULES

If not noted, rule applies to all levels

 

EQUIPMENT

 

REQUIRED - NOCSAE Lacrosse helmet, shoulder pads, elbow pads, lacrosse gloves, mouth guard, athletic cup, and cleats

 

LONG POLES -  Grades 5/6 and 7/8 only

 

PLAYER ELIGIBILITY

 

US LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP - Every player and coach in the league is required to be an active member of US Lacrosse.  Programs should be able to provide proof of active membership if requested..

 

If any program has a 7th or 8th grader playing on their school’s JV lacrosse team, they must submit a written request to the league to gain permission for this player to be included on a ⅞ recreational team roster.  Coaches will use their best judgement to monitor and include this player in appropriate playing situations that match the abilities of the other players involved.

 

GAMES

 

2 HALVES

30 minutes running time for weekday games

25 minutes running time for round robin tournament games

2 timeouts per half - 1 minute each

 

K-2  - 5 on 5 (1 attack, 2 midfield, 1 defenseman, 1 goalie) CROSS FIELD 60’ x 35’

3/4 - 7 on 7 (2 attack, 2 midfield, 2 defensemnen, 1 goalie) CROSS FIELD 60’ x 35’

5/6 - 10 on 10 (3 attack, 3 midfield, 3 defensemen, 1 goalie) REGULATION FIELDS

7/8 - 10 on 10 (3 attack, 3 midfield, 3 defensemen, 1 goalie) REGULATION FIELDS

 

DEAD BALL SITUATIONS - Must allow 5 yards before restart

 

BODY CHECKING

K-2, 3/4, and 5/6 - NO BODY CHECKING

7/8 - Body checking only on player with possession of the ball.  Below the neck, above the waist, from the front (same as NYS modified rules)

 

NO ONE-HANDED CHECKS FOR ALL GRADE LEVELS

 

SUBSTITUTIONS

Free sub on all out of bounds (horn)

All others - on the fly in the designated box area

 

MERCY RULE - IF UP BY 5 GOALS

No face-off. Losing team gets possession of ball at midfield.

 

PENALTIES

GRADES K-2 AND 3/4 -  Fast break from midfield with a 5 yard head start.

(Offending player must leave the field but can be replaced by another player.  This is a learning environment. Players may return after a coach processes the penalty with them.  Use this as a teachable moment)

 

GRADES 5/6 AND 7/8 - Play man up/down, time-serving penalties

TECHNICAL FOUL PENALTIES = 1:00 MINUTE

PERSONAL FOUL PENALTIES = 1:30 MINUTE

 

FLAGRANT FOULS - Language, sportsmanship, taunting, etc. will be at the discretion of the officials.  Players must sit out 1:30 minute to a half or the entire game at the official’s discretion.  Fighting will not be tolerated. If a player is kicked out of the game for fighting, they must sit out the next game.  Coaches/programs must enforce this rule.

 

HOME TEAM - Responsible for obtaining officials or coordinating game officials.  Home team coordinates payment of officials.

 

VISITING TEAM -  Must call to confirm game time and location with the home team in advance.

 

PRE-GAME DISCUSSION -   With all officials/coaches to get on the same page.

 

SIDELINES - No parents are allowed on the player sideline
