GRADES 6 th thru 8th

I. Player Uniforms & Equipment
A. Uniforms.
2. Shirts of the each team must be of the same color.
3. Team t-shirt or jersey with individual number must be worn.
B. All players must wear protective mouth piece.
C. Players are permitted to wear standard rubber cleats. No metal spikes!
II. Field Layout & Equipment:
A. Layout:
1. Field Length--40 yards long
2. Field Width—52 yards wide
3. End Zone--10 yards deep
B. Equipment
1. Pylons shall be set at each Goal Line and the back of the Endzone
2. Cones shall be set at the 30 Yard line and 15 Yard Line to indicate 1 st Down Markers.
3. Bean Bag for spotting the football.

III. Starting the game:
A. Game Clock.
1. The length of each game shall be 40 minutes (20 minute halves) with a running clock. In
the last two minutes of each game, the clock shall stop on incomplete passes and/or when a
ball carrier runs out of bounds.
2. A central time keeper will be designated. All games will begin and end on this persons
instructions. He will also announce the time remaining at the 10, 5, and 2 minute mark.
3. The team on the right side (visiting team) of the schedule will start the game with
possession of the ball. 

B. The visiting team will start the game with possession of the ball starting at the right hash mark of
the 40 Yard Line.
IV. Moving the ball
A. Offensive Objective:
1. Offenses always move in the same direction toward the goal line and away from the middle
of the field.
2. The offense shall seek to progress the ball toward the goal line by passing ONLY as defined
by the rules.
B. Offensive Formations:
1. Offenses shall be composed of 7 players and must include a center and a quarterback. If
there is no center, 6 players may play on offense with a ball stand.
2. There must be a minimum of two players that line up on the line of scrimmage.
C. First Downs:
1. First downs shall be marked at the 30 and 15 yard lines.
2. To achieve a first down (or new set of downs), the offense shall have to move the ball to or
past the 30 or 15 yard lines. The offense will have 4 downs to move the ball 15 yards to the
30 or 15 yard lines.

a. If a first down is achieved by the ball being progressed beyond the 30 yard line or
but before the 15 yard line, the offense will have a first down and a subsequent new
set of downs where the ball is marked down.
b. If a first down is achieved by the ball being progressed beyond the 15 yard line or
but before the goal line, the offense will have a first down and a subsequent new set
of downs where the ball is marked down.

D. Touchdown: A touchdown is scored when a player crosses the goal line while possessing the ball
or when a player catches the ball inside of the Endzone.
E. Passing Plays:
1. The offense must attempt a forward pass at least three downs in a set of four downs. The
offense may pass all four downs in a set of four downs.
2. After the ball is snapped, the quarterback has 4 seconds to pass the ball. A referee shall
count out loud the seconds remaining. If the quarterback does not throw the ball within 4
seconds, the play shall be ruled a sack and come to an end. In the case of a sack, the line of
scrimmage shall not be moved. It shall remain the same as it was at the beginning of the
preceeding play.
3. Once a forward pass has been thrown, a backwards pass (lateral) is permissible.
4. After a player has caught a pass, the play stops when the player is touched by a defensive
player anywhere on his body. The ball is marked at the place where the ball carrier is
5. The quarterback may roll to his right or left to throw the ball, but the quarterback cannot run
the ball past the line of scrimmage.
F. Play Clock.
1. The offense will have 25 seconds to snap the ball once it has been marked ready for play.
2. The referee shall spot the ball after a play is over and then start the play clock.
G. The Center
1. The Center is ineligible as a receiver. He cannot catch the ball or run pass routes.
2. The Center is responsible for retrieving the ball after every play in a timely manner. If there
is an incomplete pass, the center must retrieve the ball and give the ball to the referee, who
will then spot the ball on the field at the line of scrimmage.
3. A muffed snap is a fumble/dead ball.
4. Blocking
1. Blocking by receivers or running backs is permissible.
2. Blocking must be above the waist and on the front portion of the defensive player.
3. Crack blocks are prohibited.

V. Defense
A. Defenses must be composed of 7 players.
B. Defensive players may line up anywhere on the defensive line of scrimmage.
C. There is no tackling. A play comes to an end, when a defensive player makes contact with a ball
carrier with one hand anywhere on the ball carrier’s body below the neck.
D. Bump coverage and physical contact can be made against receivers within five yards of the line of
VI. Turning the Ball Over
A. There are no fumbles. A play is blown dead if a ball carrier drops the ball.
B. If the defense stops the offense from scoring by the end of four downs, there will be a change of
possession and the opposing team’s offense will start a new possession at the 45 yard line.

C. If the defense intercepts the ball, the play is blown dead and the defense is awarded 2 points. The
intercepting team’s offense then gets the ball at the 45 Yard Line.
D. There are no punts or kick-offs.
VII. Scoring
A. Touchdown = 6 Points
B. Extra Points:
1. From the 3 Yard Line = 1 Point
2. From the 10 Yard Line = 2 Points
C. Interceptions = 2 Points
VIII. Penalties
A. Excessive force by shoving, pushing, or striking a blow will be penalized by automatic first down
and 5 yards. Expulsion of a player(s) if ruled unsportsmanlike & flagrant.
B. Each team will have 25 seconds to snap the ball once it has been marked ready for play; delay of
game penalty will be loss of down plus 5 yards.
C. Defensive Pass Interference will be a spot foul (1st down at the spot).
D. Offensive pass interference is the same as NCAA rules.
E. Offensive team is responsible for retrieving and returning the ball to the previous spot or the new
scrimmage spot. Clock does not stop and any delay by offense in retrieving and returning the ball
TO THE REFEREE will result in a delay of game and will be a 5 yard penalty from the succeeding
F. No taunting or trash talking (5 yard penalty & expulsion if flagrant).
G. Fighting: The player (s) involved will be ejected from the game and/or tournament. If a team fight
occurs, the teams involved will be ejected from the tournament and denied participation in any/all
future leagues/tournaments!

No kicking/punting.
