INTRODUCTION TO OUR COMMITTEE
The Archdiocese of New York Catholic Committee on Scouting is a volunteer committee affiliated with the Archdiocese of New York Youth Ministry through Catholic Charities.  

We serve the Cubs and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts in Manhattan, the Bronx, Staten Island, Westchester, Putnam, Dutchess, Orange, Sullivan, Rockland, and Ulster counties. 

The Archdiocese of New York encompasses over 4,000 square miles and is divided into 19 geographical areas (vicariates).

The Committee is dedicated to promoting “Duty to God” at each level of Scouting. We are affiliated with the National Catholic Committee on Scouting^® (NCCS), an advisory to the Boy Scouts of America, and the National Catholic Committee on Girl Scouts.  We are part of Region 2 of the NCCS.

Each year our committee holds several events to promote Catholic Scouting. These events include a  Scouter Development Training Course, regular Religious Emblems Counselor Training sessions, a Religious Emblem Recognition Ceremony at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City, and coordinated Scout Sunday events in local parishes with participating Catholic Scouts and Catholic-chartered units. We are able to accomplish these events because of the many dedicated leaders that donate their time and energy to providing a quality program.

YOUTH PROTECTION POLICY


In our Archdiocese, All prospective staff members in any Archdiocesan institution, whether paid or volunteer, whose position or duties would place them in regular contact with minors, must: 

• Complete the Screening Process (including submitting to a background check);
• Abide by the Safe Environment Policies, the policy relating to sexual misconduct, and the Code of Conduct; and
• Complete the Safe Environment Training appropriate to their position.
• Please Note: The Archdiocese accepts the BSA Youth protection training which is required for every registered adult members of the BSA and which is recertified every two years. No adult may work with a child in any program/outing without meeting the BSA or Archdiocesan youth protection policies.
