Q: What is flag football?
A: Flag football is quickly becoming one of the fastest-growing sports among today’s youth. Patterned after regular football, teams run or pass the ball downfield in order to score a touchdown. Flag football offers the fun and excitement of fast-paced football in a non-contact environment.
Q: Who can play?
A: NFL Flag Football through the CTAA is open to girls and boys ages 6-14.
However, depending on interest for 14yr olds we may not have enough for teams. Please consider joining Hightstown/ East Windsor's League.
Q: When is the flag season and where do we play?
A: The flag season through CTAA is offered in the fall with registration beginning Mid May. Depending on the number of teams, games will be played at the Firehouse Field in Chesterfield with the potential to travel to a few neighboring towns.
Q: Bummer. My child already plays sports in the fall. Can I do both?
A: Though committing to more than one team is a personal choice, we understand kids are curious and want to try everything! Flag is another opportunity for your child to be outdoors, active, and social. Therefore, give it a go and communicate with your coach any conflicts as early on as possible.
Q: What does the schedule look like?
A: Practices will be held at a time convenient to the coach. Games will be played on some weeknights and Saturdays.
Q: How long are games?
A: Two 20 minutes halves with a 5 minute half-time.
Q: I am AWESOME and would love to volunteer to coach! What’s my next step?
A: Flag football coach requirements are standard to those of other CTAA sports.
- Background check
- Attend a Rutgers S.A.F.E.T.Y. course
- Complete an online concussion course
- Strongly recommended: Become a flag football certified coach https://usafootball.com/development-training/certification/flagcert/
Q: What is the registration fee?
Q: What’s included in registration?
A: Each participant will receive:
- NFL team reversible jersey
- NFL flag belt
Q: What equipment do I need to provide for my child?
A: 1. Cleats (football, lacrosse, soccer…) Cleats with exposed metal are not permitted.
2. Mouth Guard (Required at all times during play.)
3. Shorts/Pants ( Ideally with no pockets or pockets taped.)
3. Water bottle
4. Football gloves are optional
Q: How will teams be created?
A: Evaluations will be held to help determine player placement.
Q. When and where are evaluations?

Q: I still have questions. Who do I reach out to?
