SCAA Winter Wrestling Registration
Registration CLOSED for winter Nov.-Feb. Please check back in March for spring and summer sessions
USA Wrestling is the governing body for our sport, and provides supplemental insurance, coaches background checks/screenings and trainings. It is an organization that insures, and checks all affiliated clubs, tournaments, coaches, and officials.
SCAA coaches have passed a background check, are USA Wrestling leader certified (USA wrestling member which is a national governing body for our sport), SafeSport trained (training working with athletes under 18), and have years of experience with the team. They include head coach Jeff Payne (SCHS wrestling coach 18 years and SCAA wrestling coach 6 years), and Ryan Autry (SCAA wrestling coach for 5 years). We may have guest coaches such as current and/or former SCHS wrestlers and guest clinicians USA wrestling certified.
Traditionally, SCAA wrestling season is in the winter and runs from November through February with 2-3 practices a week typically Tuesday-Thursday, and 8 wrestling competitions in the Northern Virginia Wrestling Federation (NVWF) league that consists of 6 counties including Fairfax, Alexandria City, Arlington, Prince William, Stafford, Loudon, and Orange.
Please enter the Kiss N Ride entrance and drop athletes off at entrance 11. Athletes only are allowed in the building at this time due to FCPS COVID guidelines. You may enter door 11 to make introductions and any special messages for the first few practices. First time families will be allowed in once to see the layout of the wrestling room, which is just inside entrance 11, and meet the coaches to enhance comfortability. Practices will include a warm up, stretching, technique guidance, drilling of moves, and games such as relays will be played. Practice attendance tracking will be required through a team website so we can plan accordingly for training partners and coaching availability.
Wrestling shoes and comfortable workout gear (t-shirt and shorts) are required. Wrestling shoes can be purchased at Dicks Sporting Goods or online at Amazon.
We will follow FCPS, and SCAA guidelines. Any athletes who are unwell and experiencing COVID symptoms or who may have been exposed to someone with COVID may not train for 14 calendar days or have a negative test after being symptom free. All persons(any age), must wear masks while entering and exiting the facility as per current FCPS and VA COVID guidelines for persons entering a school building. The athletes will train with those of similar size/age. Masks can be worn to train, but athletes may take off masks to train. Bathrooms for sanitary usage including frequent (every 15 minutes) will be available with soap and sinks for cleaning hands, face, etc. They are right across the hall from the wrestling room and cleaned daily.
Wrestling room mats are cleaned after each practice using a virucide disinfectant.
