11U Delaware Division matchup:

Del Val Jr. Terriers (25) at Hillsborough Jr. Raiders Red (7)

On a wet morning in Califon, NJ, the teams from Del Val and Hillsborough met in a division battle to help determine playoff seeding.  Though the score ended 25-7 in favor of Del Val, it was a tough, hard fought game of football.

Del Val got the scoring off to a quick start with a 30-yard sweep to the right by #22 Jack Hanscin. The score was made possible by great blocks delivered by #32 Christian Jansen and # 1Willie Fritsche. The extra point was then stuffed by Hillsborough defense to make it a 6-0 game. Del Val was able to hold the Jr. Raiders on their next possession and get the ball back. The following drive was capped off by a 25 yard run to the left by Jansen. Fritsche then punched in the extra point with a run up the middle making the score 13-0.

After a strong drive down the field, Hillsborough turned the ball back over to the Jr. Terriers with a fumble recovered by #? Player . The next drive featured quaterback #7 Patrick O’Boyle as he completed throws to #19 Cael Edwards and #88 Will Weckesser.  Hanscin then capped the drive off with his 2nd TD of the game.  It was a 20 yard touchdown run made possible with good blocks by #56 Alex Lagun, #52 Brian Nicholson and #77 Luke Cyphert.   The strong Hillsborough defense was able to again stuff the extra point leaving the score at 19-0 at the half.

The second half started with the Jr. Terriers having the ball and slowly advancing down the field in small chunks. But then Jansen was able to break free and cap off the drive with a 35 yard touchdown down the right side of the field for his 2nd TD of the game making the score 25-0. The Jr. Terriers were again stopped on the extra point by a tough Hillsborough defense.   The following possession saw the Jr. Raiders methodically move the ball down the field on the Terriers using the snap count to their advantage as they got Del Val to jump offsides on multiple plays.   The Hillsborough QB, #? Player was able to punch it in from the 1 yard line to get Hillsborough on the board.  Then #? player converted the extra point to bring the score to 25-7 as time expired.

While Del Val got the best of Hillsborough this week, it is possible that they will see each other again as both teams have qualified for the playoffs.  These two teams know each other well and it will be a barn burner for sure!  Come one come all as this will be a dynamic exciting game to watch!  Stay Tuned.
