The Drexel Hill Raiders is a YOUTH lacrosse club so why is there information concerning college recruiting on this site?  Because in the fall of 2012, 3 area youths made verbal commitments to Virginia, John Hopkins and UNC before they even played 1 high school game for their school ... it is simply just CRAZY.

There are plenty of good information out on the web about thus process so start your research and also talk with parents who have been through it and also talk with your club and high school coaches.  There are a number of quality links on this website for you to start.

When deciding to play college lacrosse you need to figure out what is important.

  • Does your son / daughter know what they want to study in college?  My son's wanted to play in college and wanted to study engineering; this wiped out many potential schools.

  • Does your child know what size school they want, small, medium or large?

  • Does your child know what type of setting they want, urban, suburban or rural?

Only Paul Rabil is making a career as a player and they is simply because of his sponsorships NOT because he is playing in the MLL or NLL.  So unlesss god bestowed 111 mph shot on your son, tell him to crack the books and start to study.

Colleges
As of the summer of 2013, there are 63 D1 colleges fielding men's lacrosse teams and 100 on the women's side.  There are 50 D2 on the men's side and 90 on the women's. There are 208 D3 on the men's and 240 on the women's.  Club Lacrosse (MCLA 1& 2) can also be great choices to enhance your son's / daughter's college experience.

Timeline

  • Major D1 colleges start recruiting the summer after middle school (8th grade); they will slowly fill their recruiting class until after sophomore year.  They may leave 1 - 2 spots for late bloomers.

  • D3 colleges traditionally do not start to recruit until the fall of your junior year, so there is time.

Scholarships

  • NO ONE is getting a full ride.

  • In Division 1 lacrosse there are only 12.6 scholarships on the boys side for the TEAM which is 44+ players. On the women's side, the max is 12.

  • In Division II, there are 10.8 scholarships for men and 9.9 for women.

  • In Division III, there are not athletic scholarship only academic.

  • And the majority of the DI and DII teams are not fully funded, meaning they do not have the resources to offer the maximum amount of scholarships allowed by the NCAA
