3-10-17 Youth New Englands

Thomas Perry ( 8th grade) and Michael Perry (4th grade) competed at the Youth New England tournament. The brother duo both went 2-2. They held their own against the best in New England.  Congrats to a great season to these wrestlers and the wrest of the HWC team!

3-5-17 Mighty Mites and Bantam States:

Josh Maynard was the only bantam to represent the Hurricane's for the Bantam state championships. He wrestled well with the best in the state.


Girls States:

Vyvyan LaurenzaSofia Guarino and Caley Napoletano competed in the CT Girls states. Girls from all over the state including High School girls came to wrestle. Vyvyan wrestled well for her first state competition.  Sofia earned a third place finish while Caley place Second dominating her opponents until the finals. 


2nd Chance States:

The afternoon session was wrestled by Henry Pearson, Cavin Napoletano, Tyler Maynard, Lucas Kamoen, Kevin Cavrell, and Landon & Hudson Hendershot. Second place finishes were earned by Cavin, Tyler. Kevin Cavrell earned a first place finish by winning all three of his matches. It was a great tournament to cap off the season.

2-26-17 State Open Results


9 Hurricanes competed in the CT State open.  Michael Perry placed forth with a huge 4-3 win in the quarter finals and a quick 10 sec pin in the wrestle backs, securing a slot at New Englands. Carter Ganino had his first pin with the Hurricanes locking him to a forth place metal and both he and Thomas Perry earned their places at New Englands in a few weeks.  Tyler Maynard finished with a  1-2 record for the day  Eddy Barlage, Colton Merola, Greyson Merola, Cavin Napoletano and Matt Pray all wrestled well against the best in the state.


2-5-17 Husky Howl Results

The Hurricanes competed at the Husky Howl on Superbowl Sunday, 2-5-17, which is run by the UCONN Huskies club. Micheal Perry and Aaron Young started of the morning session with Dominating performance earning both FIRST place finishes. Josh Maynard had a great tournament, he earned himself a second place finish. Caley Napoletano wrestled some tough matches lost her first match but wrestled back hard to earn a third. Her brother Cavin Napoletano earned a second place finish. Matt Pray who has just joined the Hurricanes had a great tournament, he placed second as well. Graeme Anderson rounded up the hurricane with a third place finish.  Congratulations to Hudson and Landon Hendershot for competing at their very first tournament. 


1-29-17 Killingly Redmen Rumble

The Hurricanes competed well in the Killingly Redman Rumble. Michael Perry went 2-1 on the day earning him a second place finish. Michael's beat a 3 time tournament champion with a last second takedown in the third period during his second bout of the day. Henry Pearson keeps improving his record with another 2 big wins. Cavin Napolentano and Liam Alberti represented the hurricanes in the afternoon session. Both wrestled very tough brackets. Cavin wrestled 3 of the toughest opponents in the state. Cavin was able to improve his performance throughout the day. Liam went 1-2 on the day. Both of losses were again opponents Liam already faced this year. He wrestled tough and improved from the first time he wrestled them. Great job everyone. 


1-15-17 HWC competes at South Side Tourney in Trumbull


Sunday, 1-15-17, the Hurricane competed at the Trumbull South Side tournament. Some great wrestling was had by our younger wrestlers in the morning. Ryan Perry wrestled hard improving his performance throughout the day. Michael Perry had an outstanding tournament with a 3-0 record on the day, pinning all 3 of his opponents. Henry Pearson wrestled hard going 1-2 on the day with three very close matches. His one win was a come from behind victory to the undefeated wrestler in his weight class. Henry scored an amazing 6 point in the last forty seconds of the match to steal the victory. 


The middle school division was wrestled by Cooper Pitts and Lucas Kamoen both wrestlers went 1-2 on the day. Both wrested hard. Lucas' win was a major 10-2. Cooper had a quick pin in the first. Congratulations to all who competed.

1-8-17 HWC Wrestlers Compete Southington Sharkfest


Sunday, 1-8-17, the Hurricanes competed at the Southington Sharkfest. 10 wrestlers attended and 9 went home with medals for top 3. Henry Pearson earned a 1st place finish with three major decision wins. Tyler Maynard, Greyson Merola, Caley Napoletano, and Josh Maynard all received second place finishes. Cooper Pitts, Nicholas Maynard, Liam Alberti, Chase Tibere all received third place finishes.  It was a great tournament with a fantastic outcome. I am very proud of the Hurricanes who came out and competed!


2-28-16 HWC Wrestlers Compete at State Championships


Ten members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC, Madison, CT) competed at this year's CT Kids State Wrestling Championships held at the Hillhouse Field House in New Haven, CT on Sunday 28-February-2016. Dylan Kasperzyk (13yo, Killingworth, CT) led the way by collecting a team-high 4 wins en-route to a 4th place finish Kasperzyk ran his tournament record to 14-7. Nick Glynn (12yo, Killingworth) also collected a 4th place finish in his weight class. Both Glynn and Kasperzyk earned the opportunity to compete at the New England Youth Wrestling Championships in Salem, MA on the 12th and 13th of March 2016.


Also competing well for HWC were: Thomas Perry (12yo, Killingworth), who earned a 6th-place finish, Cameron Hines (13yo, Killingworth), Tyler Maynard (10yo, Madison, CT), Dalton Modehn (13yo, Killingworth), Michael Perry (7yo, Killingworth), Cooper Pitts (9yo, Killingworth), Ethan Wright (12yo, Killingworth), and Wyatt Wright (13yo, Killingworth).


HWC athletes will be back in action one more time this winter season when they compete at the Second Chance Tournament held in Thomaston, CT on 6-March-2016. 



2-14-16 HWC Competes Well at State Tournament


Twenty members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC; Madison, CT) competed in area tournaments this past weekend (14-February-2016). Most notable was the performance of Cael Loria (8yo; Killingworth, CT) who gained his second state championship title while competing at the Mighty-Mite/Bantam State Championships in Stamford, CT. Loria was perfect on the day, extending his season record to 28-1-2. Josh Maynard (6yo; Madison, CT) was a runner-up in the same tournament. Josh Frith (8yo; Killingworth) also competed well at Stamford.


Seventeen HWC wrestlers competed at the annual Husky Howl tournament in Uncasville, CT. The competition was a good representation of the better wrestlers in the state and HWC athletes competed well. The team was paced by Dylan Kasperzyk (13yo; Killingworth) and Tyler Maynard (10yo; Madison) who both went 4-0 on the day. Kasperzyk was especially dominant in collecting each of his wins by fall. Jack Ackerman (11yo; Madison), Cameron Hines (13yo; Killingworth), Greyson Merola (11yo; Killingworth), Dalton Modehn (13yo; Killingworth), and Ethan Wright (12yo; Killingworth) each went 3-1 on the day en-route to 2nd place finishes, while Colin Loria (12yo; Killingworth) and Cooper Pitts (9yo; Killingworth) finished with strong 3rd-placed finishes. Others competing well for the Hurricanes were: Eli Ackerman (10yo; Madison), Matthew Ackerman (5yo; Madison), Cayley Napoletano (8yo; Killingworth), Thomas Perry (12yo; Killingworth), Sam Stiewing (12yo; Madison), Andrew Wiese (12yo; Killingworth), Ryan Wiese (10yo; Killingworth) and Wyatt Wright (12yo; Killingworth).

1-31-16 HWC Grapplers Compete Well at Killingly



Seven members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club competed with over 500 wrestlers from Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts at the Killingly Redmen Rumble.

Leading the way for the Hurricanes was Josh Frith (7 yr Killingworth) who finished in first place. Cooper Pitts (9 yr. Killingworth) and Cael Loria (7yr. Killingworth) finished in 2nd place. Finishing in third place were Cameron Hines (13 yr, Killingworth), Colin Loria (12 yr, Killingworth), and Nick Glynn (11 yr, Killingworth). Michael Perry (9 yr, Killingworth) finished in 4th place.

The Hurricanes are in action next week at the Southington Beginner’s Tournament and the Hall of Fame Tournament in Danbury, CT.


1-24-16 HWC Grapplers Compete Well at Somers


Eight members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC; Madison, CT) competed in the Somers Youth Wrestling Tournament on Sunday 24-January-2016, in Somers, CT. Each of the HWC wrestlers earned a top 3 finish in the tournament of 330 youth wrestlers from across the state and parts of Massachusetts. 

Cael Loria (8yo, Killingworth, CT) again led the way for the Hurricanes going 4-0 on the day in capturing first place and running his season record to a perfect 21-0. This is Loria's 6th tournament win on the season. 

Six HWC wrestlers, including: Eddie Barlage (11yo, Guilford), Josh Frith (7yo, Killingworth), Cameron Hines (12yo, Killingworth), Colin Loria (12yo, Killingworth), Colton Merola (8yo, Killingworth), Sam Stiewing (11yo, Madison, CT) earned second place finishes, while Michael Perry (8yo, Killingworth) finished in 3rd place. 

As a team HWC finished with an overall record of 17-8 on the day; a winning percentage of 68%.



1-3-16 HWC Grapplers Wrestle Well at Sharkfest

Cael Loria (7yo, Killingworth) and Tyler Maynard (10yo, Madison) of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC; Madison, CT) both earned first place finishes at the annual Southington Sharkfest wrestling tournament held in Southington, CT on Sunday 3-January-2016. Maynard was dominant in just his first competition of the season, collecting 2 pins and a technical fall (12-0) en-route to a 3-0 record on the day. Loria remained undefeated for the season (10-0) after posting a 3-0 record on Sunday; he now has a team-leading 3 tournament crowns on the season.

Six HWC wrestlers earned second place finishes including: Cameron Hines (12yo, Killingworth), Josh Frith (7yo, Killingworth), Nick Glynn (11yo, Killingworth), Josh Maynard (5yo, Madison), Greyson Merola (11yo, Killingworth), and Rylan Smith (7yo, Madison). Dylan Kasperczyk (12yo, Killingworth) finished in 3rd place. Colin Loria (11yo, Killingworth) also competed very well for the club.

HWC wrestlers will be back in action this coming Sunday when they compete in 2 tournaments including a beginner's tournament in Colchester, CT as well as a regular tournament in Danbury, CT.


12-27-15 12-HWC Wrestlers Earn High Finishes at New Year's Bash Tourney.

Three area wrestlers who train with the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC; Madison, CT) competed in the New Year's Bash tournament on Sunday 27-December-2015 in Bethel, CT. Cameron Hines (12yo, Killingworth, CT) led the way, going undefeated on the day en-route to a first place finish; his second title of the young season. Josh Frith (8yo, Killingworth, CT) and Rylan Smith (8yo, Madison, CT) both wrestled very well while collecting multiple wins on the day on their way to second-place finishes. Collectively, the threesome went 8-2 on the day. HWC wrestlers will next be in action on Sunday 3-January-2016, competing in the Southington Sharkfest, held in Southington, CT. 


12-20-15 HWC Wrestlers Compete Well at Waterford

All 11 members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (Madison, CT) who competed in the Waterford Youth Wrestling Tournament, held in Waterford, CT on Sunday 20-December-2015 earned a top 3 finish on the day. Cael Loria (7yo, Killingworth) paced HWC going 3-0 on the day with 3 falls en-route to capturing first place in his weight/age class. Loria remains undefeated on the young season.

Five members each earned 2nd and 3rd place finishes, they were: Grace Ackerman (8yo, Madison), Josh Frith (7yo, Killingworth), Cameron Hines (12yo, Killingworth), Cooper Pitts (9yo, Killingworth), and Rylan Smith (7yo, Madison) finishing as runners-up, and Matthew Ackerman (6yo, Madison), Nick Glynn (11yo, Killingworth), Colin Loria (11yo, Killingworth), Josh Maynard (5yo, Madison), and Cavin Napoletano (11yo, Killingworth) finishing in 3rd place.

HWC wrestlers will be back on the mats on 27-December-2015 competing in the New Year's Bash in Bethel, CT. 


11-21-15 Bristol Fall Brawl 

Eleven members of the Hurricane Wrestling Club (HWC; Madison, CT) competed in the opening competition of the Winter season this past weekend at the annual Fall Brawl, held on Saturday 21-November in Bristol, CT.


Eli Ackerman (10yo, Madison, CT) recorded 2 first-period pins en route to a first place finish, while Cameron Hines (12yo, Killingworth, CT) also collected a couple of wins in earning second-place.Thomas Perry (12yo, Killingworth, CT) and Cooper Pitts (9yo, Killingworth, CT) also earned second-place finishes, while  Dylan Kasperzyk (12yo, Killingworth, CT), Cavin Napoletano (11yo, Killingworth, CT), and Aaron Young (8yo, Killingworth, CT) each took 3rd place. Other HWC wrestlers who competed well were Grace Ackerman (8yo, Madison, CT), Greyson Merola (9yo, Killingworth, CT), Ben Williams (11yo, Killingworth, CT), and Peter Young (10yo, Killingworth, CT).


HWC wrestlers will next be in action on Sunday 13-December competing in the New Milford Kickoff Classic in New Milford, CT.
