COACH LENNY CASALINO Cannons Advisor / Retired Coach Founder of Calvert Lacrosse, US Lacrosse Hall of Fame Accomplished longtime player. Award-winning high school varsity coach. Major contributor to the growth of high school and youth lacrosse in Southern MD and DC Metro Area. US Lacrosse Potomac Chapter Hall of Fame Inductee. US Lacrosse Coach of the Year. US Lacrosse and US Coaches Asso Man of the Year. US Lacrosse Century Club recipient for 100+ high school wins. Founder of Calvert Lacrosse Club. Founder and 20-year President of SMYLA Youth League. Former high school official. And the list continues…
Coach Lenny brings a wealth of knowledge and diverse experiences and a crusty coaching style to the Cannons Select Lacrosse Program. Although folklore would say Coach Lenny was born with a lacrosse stick in his hand, he was actually five when he discovered his first lacrosse stick. Lenny played youth and high school lacrosse in Long Island before being recruited to play college lacrosse at the University of MD where he was a three-year letterman. After graduating from UMD, he enrolled in law school and made MD his permanent home. Lenny played lacrosse for more than a decade in the US Club Lacrosse Leagues which he respectfully calls “the pro league back in the day.”
Coach Lenny started lacrosse in Southern MD in 1986 with nine high school students. When the school system would not support the sport, Coach Lenny and the boys raised funds to support the program and continued as an independent high school varsity program until 2000 when the Board of Education adopted lacrosse as a high school sport. Under his coaching, his Calvert Lacrosse Club teams celebrated two undefeated seasons, won four Tri-County Championships, ranked six times in The Washington Post Top 20, and had numerous players awarded HS All-American, All-Met, All-Conference, and All-League recognition and players he has coached continue to be recruited into some of the top college lacrosse programs. Coach Lenny’s CLC Program developed girls and youth divisions and continued until merging with Cannons Select Lacrosse where Coach Lenny continues coaching youth lacrosse. Lenny still plays the sport he loves in local men’s leagues and travels to compete in tournaments with his Mr Boh team, including playing twice in the Lacrosse World Games. His most treasured lacrosse moments are when he can suit up and play alongside his son, Joe Casalino!
Off the lacrosse field, Lenny resides in Huntingtown with his lacrosse fanatic wife and maintains a private law practice in Upper Marlboro. Although Lenny’s accomplishments are many, he is most proud of his amazing family and the lifelong friendships he has developed with the players he has coached.
