Vista Lady Talons AAU Basketball
Who are we?
- The Vista Lady Talons is a competitive AAU basketball program open to girls in 4th through 8th grade (approx. ages 10-14).
- Our program is a close partner to the girls basketball program at Vista Del Lago High School in Folsom, CA.
What will we teach?
Our main goal is to help each player reach their maximum potential, both on and off the court. We will teach the main fundamentals of basketball such as passing, dribbling, shooting, defensive techniques, rebounding, and more, but we will also teach traits that the players will use throughout life, such as teamwork, confidence, respect, responsibility, communication, sportsmanship, and honesty. We want to provide a competitive and developmental atmosphere for our players. We invite our players to test their limits on the court, ask questions when they don't understand something, and ultimately, to enjoy the sport and have fun in a competitive environment.
When is our Season/Tryouts?
Our Fall/Winter season runs October-February, and our Spring season runs March-May with an optional June extension. Tryouts typically occur for the Fall/Winter season in August, and Spring tryouts are typically held in February. More information is listed under the tryouts tab on the website. If you have any further questions, feel free to contact Dave Nazworth or Marty Benjamin via the contact info tab of our website.
Philosophy on Playing Time?
The Lady Talons is a competitive basketball program - not recreational where playing time is equal. At the lower grades the play is more equitable, but as players move into the higher grade levels the competition for playing time increases. Throughout the whole program, our players are taught that they must earn their playing time regarding games and tournaments. This starts with attending practices, focusing during skills sessions, working on the skills they are taught outside of practice, and so on. Hard work + demonstrated ability = more playing time. We highly encourage players to take advantage of local personal trainers and basketball development outlets to improve outside of scheduled practices, so feel free to reach out to us to help you find the best trainer for your daughter's unique skill set.
