Hopewell Youth Association Cold Weather Policy
The Hopewell Board of Directors understands everyone's desire to practice and play games in marginal
weather, especially since non rainy days are few and far between this time of year.
However, our prime directive as the governing Board is to protect the wellbeing of the players, coaches,
and parents of our great organization. Our desire is to have your children playing baseball and sports for
many years to come, and we are very concerned about cold weather and the effect it has on the health
and wellbeing of the kids, especially on their throwing arms.
We have solicited opinions from medical and sports medicine experts, and they have been unanimous in
their support of setting cold weather temperature limits for young baseball players in order to protect
their health.
Just as importantly, we want the players and families to enjoy themselves when they play baseball at
Hopewell ... and frankly, it's very difficult to enjoy yourself if you're shivering and can't feel your toes.
Therefore, here is the Hopewell Youth Association Cold Weather Policy….
HYA Cold Weather Policy:
During weeknights: if the official Milton, Ga. temperature, as measured by www.Weather.com, is 42
Degrees OR LESS at 4:30pm, All Practices, Games, and Cage Time will be Cancelled, and all HYA Fields
and Cages will be Closed. This applies to all Recreational League, Select League, and Travel League
players and teams.
During weekends: if the official Milton, Ga. temperature, as measured by www.Weather.com , is 42
Degrees OR LESS ONE Hour Before a Practice or Game Time, those Practices or Games will be Delayed or
Cancelled, and all HYA Fields and Cages will be Closed. This applies to all Recreational League, Select
League and Travel League players and teams. In the event of a temperature shift above 42 degrees, the
fields will reopen, based on the judgment of the Hopewell Board of Directors. (To avoid last minute
notifications at 7am Saturday, the Board of Directors will determine the status of the early morning
games as soon as possible on Friday, based on forecasted temperatures.)
Our HYA website includes a link to the Official Temperature (as provided by www.Weather.com).
We ask everyone for their cooperation as we strive to make Hopewell a fun and safe park for our kids
and parents.
Please be assured that any coaches that disregard this policy will be subject to immediate disciplinary
action, including suspension or expulsion by the Hopewell Board of Directors.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
