The Mariemont Recreation Association (MRA) Volleyball program was started by Wes Iredale in the spring of 2012. The program is currently coordinated by Heather Lester.
MRA Volleyball is open to all 3rd – 6th grade girls living within or near the Mariemont School District. MRA Volleyball was a spring sport from 2012 - spring 2018, but the program moved to a fall sport in fall 2018. In fall 2018, the MRA Volleyball program started participating in the Cincinnati Premier Youth Volleyball League (CPYVL). In this league, MRA Volleyball plays games against other teams around Cincinnati. CPYVL will provide officials/referees and schedule games for all teams in the league. The majority of away games are in neighboring communities, but there may be teams from throughout the greater Cincinnati area. The season will start with practices in August. Each team will play in 10 games (this includes 5 homes games) and one post season tournament. Games will run from August through October.
Purpose and Goals:
- Introduce girls to competitive volleyball in grade school to learn the game, have fun, and better prepare them for junior high competition.
- Experience is not expected and all participants will practice and play
- Make this a fun, learning experience, develop good sportsmanship, fair play and teamwork.
- To learn the rules of the game, the techniques involved, and develop their skills.
Equipment: MRA will provide uniform shirts and balls. The players will need gym shoes, black shorts, and knee pads.
