 Al Hammell- Baseball Director

Al Hammell is a 1989 graduate of Our Lady of Lourdes High School. He played baseball collegiately at LeMoyne College and was selected by the New York Mets in the 28th round of the 1992 Major League Draft after his Junior season. Hammell sgned a professional contract and went on to play five years in the New York Mets organization as a catcher reaching as high as the AAA level.

After ending his professional baseball playing career in 1997, Hammell served four years as the top Assistant Baseball Coach at Division 1 Marist College while he completed his Masters Degree in Public Administration and obtained his New York State Elementary Education Teaching Certification.

After two years of experience back in professional baseball working with the Los Angeles Angels organization as an area scout, Hammell began teaching elementary education in the Millbrook Central School District in 2003.

Hammell was a Head Baseball Coach for 9 years at the high school level.  He served for 3 years as the Head Coach at Millbrook High School and 6 years as the Head Coach at Arlington High School.

In his nine years ('06-'14) of coaching high school baseball, Hammell led his teams to five Sectional Championships (three at Millbrook '06, '07, '08; and two at Arlington '12, '13).

Both programs were highly successful as both programs competed in the NYS Final Four Championships in Binghamton, NY. 

It was Milbrook's (Class C) first ever Baseball Final Four appearance and it was Arlington's (Class AA) first Baseball Final Four appearance in over 25 years.

In 2006, Hammell was named the New York State Baseball Coach of the Year in Class C.

Hammell has shown proven success in moving many players on to play at the collegiate and professional levels with his involvement in the Taconic Rangers Organization. He is also currently serving as the Head Baseball Coach at Dutchess Community College. A position he has held since 2014. 

Coach Hammell is currently the Director of Athletics/Dean of Students at Millbrook High School and is beginning his 19th year as a teacher and administrator in the Millbrook Central School District

Coach Hammell resides in his hometown of Pleasant Valley with his family. His wife Stacey is a Special Education Teacher in the Martha Lawrence Early Intervention Pre-School program. They have three children together, a son Tyler 21 (a Junior Biology major at Binghamton University), and two daughters Morgan 18 (a Freshman basketball player at SUNY New Paltz), and Allie 16 (a Junior at Arlington HS).

 

Chris Lugbauer- Assistant Baseball Director

Chris Lugbauer is a 1988 graduate of Mahopac High School where he lettered for the varsity for three seasons. He played collegiately at Columbia University. After ending his high school and college playing career he went on to play in numerous men’s leauges  and continued to play into his 40’s and started coaching youth baseball.

Lugbauer was a member of the board and a coach for the Lagrange Youth Baseball organization from 2006 – 2016. During his tenure there he managed communications and web presence for the league, commissioned the minors division, and coached multiple teams at multiple levels. He was also instrumental in structuring successful clinics for 5-12 year old children. Chris managed a ten year old and a twelve year old all star team to New York District 17 championships in 2007 and 2009 respectively.

From 2010-2012, Lugbauer was an assistant coach for the Taconic Rangers 13U and 14U teams. During this experience and during his little league coaching experience, Lugbauer had the opportunity to coach numerous players that went on to play college at all levels (D!, D2, D3) and a handful of players that are still playing professionally. Lugbauer is passionate about coaching baseball and seeing players reach their full potential both on and off the field. He takes a special interest in the futures of these young players and often keeps in contact with players who he has previously coached. He has aspirations to coach competitively at the high school varsity level.

Professionally, Lugbauer works as a manufacturing & IT consultant with Accenture.

He is married to his wife Cynthia for 27 years. They have three children. Drew is currently in the minor leagues as a Double A player in the Atlanta Braves organization. Russell graduated from SUNY Cortland where he played football and was a starting offensive lineman. Trey is currently playing in the Rangers North organization at the 17U level.
