Dear SCAA Family & Friends,

SCAA had a successful Members meeting on Tuesday, September 29, 2020.  We had a strong showing of 29 members until we had technical issues and had to conclude the meeting early.  Fortunately, we were able to conduct a vote on the two open Board seats and we are proud to welcome Mitch Mitchell & Sezlyn Johnson.  We are very thankful to have their time and talent.

I would also like to take this time to welcome Bryan Harris as the newly appointed Executive Director.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and excitment to our team.

Many of you have expressed interest in joining the SCAA leadership.  Please use the below link to sign up for our committees.  Your involvement is appreciated and needed to help us grow and create opportunities for our SCAA student athletes.

We would also like to announce our new community campaign; please find the link below.  Kindly help spread the word to your friends and families.  These funds will keep us viable through these unusual times and will create scholarships, equipment funds and help pay for field and gym space until our seasons are determined and full registrations for our youth sports can return in full.

It is a pleasure being apart of this fantastic community.  Please feel free to contact me directly, or any of our 11 Board Members if you have any questions or ideas for our program.

Go Colts!!

Boys Lacrosse Fall Brawl Registration is Open
by posted 09/07/2020

Good afternoon, South County Colts Families.

For those of you who do not know me, I am the new South County Lacrosse Boys director. After several years with the program, John Buonerba recently passed the lacrosse stick on to me. John, your support for the program and enthusiasm for the game will be deeply missed. I have been a coach with the Colts for the past three years.

We would like to put a U14 team together to participate in the Fairfax Fall Brawl tournament on November 28, 2020, at the Evergreen Sports Complex in Leesburg, VA. This one-day, outdoor event will be fun and provide your players the opportunity to get some exercise and build skills, teamwork, and lasting memories. We must have at least 12 and no more than 18 players on our roster to register. Registration is $70 per player.

If your player would like to participate, please do not wait to register.  We will need to know whether we have enough players to field a team by October 17.  In addition, with only 18 slots on the roster, registration will be on a first-come, first-serve basis.  Please visit the SCAA website at the link below and pre-register. I am also including a link for the Fairfax Fall Brawl website for more details regarding this year’s tournament.

SCAA Football COVID-19 Update
by posted 07/16/2020

The Virginia High School League (VHSL) met yesterday to decide how to handle the fall sports season.  They presented three options that will be voted on during a July 27th meeting.  VAYFA (our league), has followed the VHSL decision process for deciding to play and we do not expect that to change based on the information received from the VAYFA President.

You can read more about the options in the link to the article above, but none of the options include football being played in the fall.  Football, for obvious reasons, is consider a higher risk infection activity related to COVID-19 and it is important to note the statement made by the VHSL executive director Billy Haun:

“It’s important to remember that in all these models playing sports in the high risk category depends on being out of the current Phase III guidelines. All our efforts will continue towards advocating for the opening of sports and activities in a safe and reasonable way that will protect athletes, activity participants, coaches, officials, and the public,” Haun said in a statement. “The VHSL will continue making judgments based on the best available information and directives provided by the Governor, the Virginia Department of Health (VDH), and the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).”

More information will be forthcoming following the July 27th vote
