Tryout Dates Set for MS Select & HS Travel
by posted 12/15/2019

MS SELECT

For details about the league, visit the MS Select Overview page. MS Select tryouts are open to girls in grade 6th-8th already registered for the Spring 2019 season - here is the link to the online registration page.  Over 115 girls tried out in 2019 for 50 positions (5 MYV teams).

The process for the Spring 2020 season will involved two tryout rounds.

  • Round 1 TRYOUTS are 50 minute sessions open to anyone. No prior sign-up is required, just show up to one (and only one) of the following sessions:
    • Monday, March 2 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2
      • Session 1: 7:00pm-7:50pm
      • Session 2: 8:00pm-8:50pm
    • Wednesday, March 4 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2
      • Session 3: 7:00pm-7:50pm
      • Session 4: 8:00pm-8:50pm
    • Thursday, March 5 at McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2
      • Session 5: 7:00pm-7:50pm
      • Session 6: 8:00pm-8:50pm
  • Round 2 CALLBACK is invitation-only based on Round 1 results and takes place on Saturday, March 7 @1:15pm-3:00pm at the McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2 (checkin at 1:00pm).  Attendance is mandatory to be considered for a MS Select team.
If offered a position, reply with your acceptance, confirm your understanding of the MYA Volleyball Playing Time Policy, and verify which days & times you are available for team practices. If not offered a position, no worries.  You're still playing volleyball this spring on a House team.

HS TRAVEL & HS SELECT

For the Spring 2020 season, there will be just one HS Travel team with about 12 girls on the roster.  The HS Travel tryout is Saturday, March 7 @4:15pm-6:00pm (4:00 check-in) at the McLean HS Main/Lower Gym #2. You do not need to be registered for the Spring 2020 season prior to the tryout but you need to sign-up for the tryout using the following link

Those interested in joining HS Select and are not already on a self-formed team roster, must attend the same HS Travel tryout on Saturday, March 7 @415pm-6:00pm to be considered for a team.  There could be 1 to 3 league-formed teams that will select players from the tryout.  If you are already on a self-formed HS Select team, you do not need to attend the tryout.

Those who don't make either a HS Travel or HS Select team are given the option to participate in the 9th-12th Grade House league, assuming available space.

HS Select Returns For Another Season

HS SELECT LEAGUE RETURNS FOR ANOTHER SEASON

The HS Select league is an advanced league for players who want to have a competitive volleyball experience without the Club or HS Travel commitment. During its successful inaugeral season in 2019 over 70 girls with HS team and club experience played on 8 different teams.  All matches were extremely competititve.

For the spring 2020 season, HS Select will continue to follow the BYOT (Bring Your Own Team) and BYOC (Bring Your Own Coach) format where a group of friends and aquaintences registers as a team and identifies its own coach (optional). The commitment is one 90-minute practice during the week (also optional) and one 60 or 90-minute match on Saturdays.  The league follows standard HS volleyball rules without special exceptions.  There is a limit of 8 teams.  Active club players and HS Travel players can no longer participate in HS Select.

Singles interested in playing in the HS Select league may be picked up by a BYOT team looking for additional players.  If the maximum of 8 teams has not been reached by the March 1 deadline, singles can attend the HS Travel tryout on Saturday, March 7 from 4pm to 6pm to be evaluated for a league-formed HS Select team.

Donate to Help Bring Sand Volleyball Courts to Spring Hill REC

Help Bring Sand Volleyball to the Spring Hill RECenter

Good News. McLean Youth Volleyball is partnering with the Spring Hill RECenter to build two (2) SAND VOLLEYBALL COURTS on the RECenter property.  The planned location will be in the open field adjacent to the pool sun deck and baseball diamond.

This is an exciting development that will bring high quality sand courts to the community and open up options for additional McLean Youth Volleyball programs.  Sand Volleyball is already a popular Olympic sport and currently the fastest growing NCAA sport, expanding 10% annually.

The goal is to raise about $15K through private donations that the Fairfax County Park Authority will match with public funds.

If you’d like to make a tax-deductible donation, please use the following form on the MYV website: http://assn.la/UserForm.asp?RegID=164496&org=MCLEANVOLLEYBALL.ORG

We welcome whatever amount you are comfortable donating ($20, $50, $100 or more).

Thank you!

Chuck Pruitt, Director
McLean Youth Volleyball
