Current plans for spring clinics/practice/season

Below is an outline of our current plans are for the spring season, subject to change. Registration will shift to waitlists after Jan 31st, come join us!

Short term (while in COVID Purple/Red Tier)

  • Shortly after Feb 1st registration deadlines we will be forming cohorts with up to 14 players and 2 coaches. Players signing up after Feb 1st could get waitlisted, as we have strict limits on cohort sizes
  • We will be scheduling weekend field time starting in mid-Feb for a series of skills clinics with additional elements as COVID restrictions allow, including possible light competition with no contact. We will probably schedule 4-6 consecutive weekends to start, with a modest registration fee to cover our field costs (~$25-$40)
  • If the county moves to the Red Tier, the girls can begin to play other teams within the county (they are a no-contact version of the game, and thus considered lower risk)

Medium term (COVID Orange Tier)

  • Boys can resume intra-club competition within the county, and possibly in neighboring counties in the same tier
  • Games will be scheduled on an ad-hoc rolling basis, anywhere from weeks in advance to a few days in advance.
  • Teams can register with NCJLA at no or minimal cost for support with scheduling a officials
  • If teams of original cohort size (<= 14) remain, we will likely opt to play a version of the game called “small-sided” or “short-sided”. If another club wants to play full sided, we can look at combining cohorts to field a larger team for standard 10v10
  • If full sized teams become allowed we need accurate registration numbers now so we can plan cohorts that could combine later in the season.

Post-season (conditions allowing)

  • NCJLA plans to host a series of tournaments at the end of May and early June called “Celebration of Lacrosse”. There will be a registration fee and 3-5 games packed into one day. Teams who register with NCJLA during the regular season will have priority.
  • There is an agreement between the league and travel teams not to extend the season beyond early June, but if for whatever reason that is waived (i.e. travel teams cannot form in time), NCJLA will keep hosting tournaments if there is demand.

Our COVID-19 safety protocols will continue to be implemented at levels required by the state and county for each tier, and adjusted as restrictions and guidance change.

Of course, we can’t predict when or even if we will progress through the tiers during the season, but the recent lifting of stay-at-home orders as a reduction in case rates as the broader population gets vaccinated, we may be able to pull off a small season with competitive games. In the meantime, we can get your players on the field for some exercise and skills building.

Flexibility will be key, but we need to have a list of names of players to contact to form our initial cohorts/teams - so sign up now!

Hope to see you out there soon.
