AGE REQUIREMENT: Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by an adult. This includes all events (lessons, practices, meets, matches)
Klahaya Swim & Tennis Club was established in 1958 as a facility where families could gather to enjoy swimming, friendships, and other activities. We undertook a major remodel of the facilty in 2008.
Presently there are 240 families. We are open from the middle of May until the middle of September. We have a varied schedule offering a Swim Team, Tennis Team, Lessons, Open Swim, Adult Lap Swimming, an Adult Swim Team, and many social activities.
Klahaya Gear Store
Hi Klahaya Family,
Let's get our Frog Spirit on! We all are so ready for it! New Logo! New Klahaya Gear!
As promised, our 2nd Klahaya Gear store has opened up for the season. These are a small selection of non-Nike basics (that were offered last week). There are tees, sweatshirts, and sweatpants with our new sharp logo. They are for women, men, and youth. These are a great choice as they are a lower price point and not just the athletic style. Perfect for a growing child, a swim or tennis team fan, or those that are just so proud of sporting Klahaya Gear!
We have been working with a different company this year. They are Lock Screen Printing and are just fabulous to work with. Thankful to support local friends.
Our store link is ready and looks great! It is set to close on June 16th so get on immediately and order away!
KLAHAYA: It is a state of mind - Merchandise store now open!
With the opening of the tennis courts, even for limited play, we have definitely begun getting into a Klahaya state of mind. What is a Klahaya state of mind you ask? For frogs it begins with anticipation of all of the wonderful things that the club represents - lessons, swim and tennis team, lap and free swim, family barbecues, beach blanket bingo, etc. Most importantly, it is the value we place on the people in this community and the spirit we embody. We count down the days until open, and we are sad at the end of every season.
As we move through the Governor’s phases we are excited about the prospect of being able to resume many of our activities and see our members, both new and returning ones. While we are not all at the club in body, we can definitely be there in spirit. We are opening our Klahaya store now so that you can choose to show your spirit and represent the club in the community. These items are different from the swim and tennis team tees your children will be offered when they begin.
We are excited to have a new logo this year (see above) that will appear on our website, merchandise* and swim team suit. We have partnered with a Nike vendor to create a store that will be open all year-around and offer a great variety of performance and leisure wear that will be shipped directly to your home.
*We will also offer a few non-Nike basics - tee, sweatshirt and sweatpants with our logo. That store is currently being developed. These can be a great choice as they will come in a slightly lower price point. Perfect for a growing child or one who is prone to leaving their stuff in the backseat of a friends car or on the bus.
Helpful information for navigating the Nike merchandise site:
Coach Tom here, we hope you are all staying safe and healthy during these strange times. Today Monday May 18th, was projected as our first day of the KLA swim season. Now, obviously there is no KLA practice this week and many things in our lives have changed, yet we remain very hopeful. The GSSSL Board, KLA Board, and League coaches are working hard to gather best practices and safely begin our season when we get the signal that allows us to start.
KLA is an incredibly special place of community, friendship, fitness, and social connectedness. Our kids and families would benefit enormously from having an exciting and mindfully safe KLA swim season. All kids 5-18 are invited join. Furtermore, the latest research has clearly shown youth are the least likely to get infections and the CDC has stated swim pools show no evidence for catching the virus.
We have prepared a fun motivational Pre-Season Pump video for you to watch. ENJOY!
At the end, each Frog family or groups of Frog families are invited to record themselves doing the KLA Team Cheer. Post it to Facebook and tag Tom Schutte and Klahaya. We want to gather them all and create a montage of clips into one exciting Team Cheer video by the end of this week!

5 Push-ups (basic good straight body form)
6 Jump Lunges (lunge forward and transition jump to opposite side)
7 Exploding Abs (standard sit-up, then streamline vertical at the top of the crunch)
If your families are anything like mine you’ve got kids and likely yourselves who are desperate to get back in the water and getting tired of working out in the living room. Thankfully there is some light at the end of the tunnel, although still a way out. For those of you looking to get wet before Klahaya opens, I want to give you an update from our new swimsuit vendor Blueseventy.
In 2020 we are moving to local Shoreline company www.blueseventy.com to supply swimsuits for our boys and girls team. The owner is a Highland Terrace parent and has a store in the North City neighbourhood. Besides regular swimwear and tech suits, Blueseventy sells wetsuits and accessories for both pool and open water swimming and is a big player in the triathlon and open water swimming world. With pools closed for another month or more, open water swimming is an option (following city and state guidelines of course) however for the next 6-8 weeks, using a wetsuit is probably wise. The Bell family swam last night up at Martha lake and with wetsuits was not to cold. Being back in the water was fantastic.
As we look to build our relationship with Blueseventy, they are offering Klahaya members a 40% discount on their online store using the code klahaya40.
I am writing on behalf of your Board of Directors to provide updates on all things Klahaya. As you are likely aware the Governor has extended his stay home, stay healthy order through the end of May. Based on that order, we will not be able to open on time and we must postpone our work parties. Governor Inslee has also laid out a phased approach to resuming activity and we as a board are in support of this approach as it ultimately aims to keep our members safe. As we understand it, we will not be able to open our recreational facility until we as a state and/or county reach phase 3. We are currently looking to gain clarification on whether activities such as tennis which typically involves 5 or fewer participants might be considered permissible in phase 2 however, we do not have that determination at this time.
Key pieces of information:
Klahaya Pool & Club will not open prior to reaching phase 3, it is unlikely we will reach that prior to June 16th.
Once we reach phase 3 we will need to implement some new safety standards and will likely be asked to operate at 50% capacity for much of the Summer.
Work parties will be rescheduled once we have an estimated time for reopen.
Late fees are suspended for the time being. Typically, late fees are charged if payment is not received by opening day.
Your $1,000 annual payment is divided into two parts:
$440 is an assessment fee - this is the portion each member pays to pay down the debt we owe on the facility.
$560 membership fee - this covers the cost of running the club, staffing, maintenance, etc.
Currently, we are asking members to pay the mandatory $440 assessment fee to ensure we meet our financial responsibilities to our lender. Once we have an opening date the Board of Directors will determine a pro-rated membership fee and will ask that the fee is paid prior to opening. For those who have already paid the full $1,000, Thank You Very Much! The balance between the prorated membership fee and your $560 payment will be applied to your annual fee next year (2021).
If you are unable to pay or are experiencing financial hardship please do not hesitate to contact me at:
we want to work with you.
In summary, we are a family and we will do all that we can to ensure this Summer is the best we can make of it. The pool and facilities team are working hard to ensure we are ready when we are given the authorization to open. There are still several options on the table for both Swim and Tennis Teams however it is still too early to make those determinations.
Thank you again for your patience and understanding, now more than ever our Board is looking forward to seeing you at the club.
