Welcome to HRYBL's website!

Hamden Regional Youth Basketball registration is now open for the 2021-2022 season. We will be working closely with the Quinnipiack Valley Health District and following their COVID-19 guidelines.

The current guidelines require that all players and parents wear a mask at all times inside during practices and games.

The cost for the league this year will be $150.00 per player.  Players can register at http://www.hrybl.com. The league is divided into divisions by player's grade level. In the past, we had the following divisions: K-2 CO-ED, Boys Divisions 3-4 grade, 5-6 grade, 7-8 grade, and 9-12 grade, and the following girl's divisions 3-4 grade, 4-6 grade, and 7-12 grade.

All of our league games are played on Saturdays and each team will have a one-hour practice during the week. When you are registering, you can enter one bad practice night. To have a league, we need parents to volunteer to coach. Please signup to coach at the end of the registration process.

We are asking each player that registers to come to one skills evaluation. These evaluations help our coaches balance the teams for a more competitive league. Evaluations will include three stations (dribbling, passing, shooting).  Once a player completes the three stations, they will exit the gym to limit players in the gym at one time.

We are not accepting any registration or payments at skills evaluation. All signups MUST BE DONE ON-LINE before attending a skills evaluation.

ALL PLAYERS SITTING ON THE BENCH MUST BE  INSERTED INTO THE GAME

About the HRYBL

2018-2019, over 580 boys and girls from Hamden, North Haven, Bethany, Cheshire, New Haven, Wallingford, and Woodbridge participated in League play. One of the League’s strengths is its philosophy. Although games are competitive, the League encourages the participation of all children, regardless of ability or experience. The goal of the league is to develop children’s skills, teach sportsmanship, encourage the benefits of teamwork, and help them appreciate the game of basketball. Coaches also work to ensure that all players receive the same amount of playing time and, most importantly, have fun. Another strength of the League is that it draws players from across the region.

All games are played in Hamden

There is one practice per week and one game on Saturday.

Players are drafted onto teams by grade and skill level to ensure competitive play

Common Questions and Answers

How much does it cost to register a player

Player Registration is $150.00.
If registration has closed you must register as a wait list player.  The wait list registration fee is $175  Wait list players will be given a full refund if they cannot be placed on a team.

Can my child be placed on the same team as another player for carpool or other reasons or, can my child be placed with a particular coach?

Your child is evaluated and assigned a confidential rating.  Coaches generally draft from the highest rating down so there is parity among teams.  Although coaches are aware of your request during the draft, your child may be selected by another coach before your request can be acted on.  This is unavoidable.

If you know a coach you would like your child to be with, it is suggested that you contact that coach directly and tell them about your request.  There is still no guarantee your child will play with this coach.

A player whose parent or guardian is a coach or assistant coach is guaranteed to play on that team.

Why does your registration form have  "What ONE night can your child NOT practice" on it?

It is simply impossible for HRYBL to prepare team rosters around the schedules of 500 families.  We recognize that certain obligations are priorities in a family, therefore we ask for the one night that this priority takes place.  We will do our best not to place your child on a team that practices that one evening.

Why is it important that I give you my email address?

We will send you reminders about tryout dates, practice cancellations,  game cancellations and their reschedule dates, lost and found items, and other important league related information and updates.  We will never share your email address with anyone.

Is my child guaranteed to be placed on a team that I Sponsor?

Generally your child will play on the team you sponsor, however occasionally the children of two sponsors are placed on the same team.  When this happens our policy is as follows:

The sponsor form that was received first will secure that team.

Why don't you list practice and game times for each division during registration?

Before we can make any schedule we need to know the number of players that will be in each grad
