Club News - December 2, 2020

Hello Desert Ridge Rattler Families!

We want to share some updates as we look forward to the start of the 2020-21 season. While there is always a lot to be done, this year continues to be a special set of challenges.

The return to remote learning in PVUSD has impacted field allocations, and our field permit has been delayed. The district anticipates issuing our permit for our fields later this week for Greenway Middle School, the same venue for our practices as last December.

Since a regular practice schedule is not possible until that permit is issued, we will be at Cashman Park this Saturday from 10am-11am for players and parents to stop by, ask questions about the club and the season, meet the coaches, have a catch, and test their shooting with the radar gun.

  • We plan to continue meeting up on Saturdays until further notice to give kids an opportunity to shake the rust off and get ready for our return to play.  (All are welcome!  New players, returning players, registered or not.)
  • Once our field permit is issued, we will immediately announce a practice schedule.
  • If that happens quickly, and we can confirm enough players for 14U and/or 12U squads, we will travel to Maricopa for the Lax4Life tournament Saturday, December 12th.

We fully realize that this is short notice and will be posting another update on our situation on Friday morning.

Information on the 2021 staff (we are excited to announce some great returning and new coaches!), uniform ordering, and the 8U and 10U practice schedule will be announced via website, Facebook, and email in the upcoming days.

Given the ongoing public health situation, we are adjusting the fee policy for the season in be as fair as possible to all those who make commitments towards the season:

  • All registration fees collected (less processing) will be fully refundable through Jan 10th. This is the last possible date for us to pay our league dues and be included on the league schedule.
  • Once that date passes, we will offer pro-rated refunds for all fees not paid out through March 1.
  • After March 1st, any cancellations that result in the league refunding fees to the club will be offered through a fee discount on future club seasons.

We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience--and above all a safe environment—for all concerned.

Image result for lacrosse sticksFrequently Asked Questions:

  • When will practices be?  We are in the process of securing a practice field for early December to prepare for Lax4Life and a more permanent location to start prepping for the spring starting in early January?  Typically, we will practice two times (more than likely Tu/Th) during the week while the season is progressing.
  • Where will practices be?  Again, we are waiting for field assignments but may be at either Paradise Valley Park, Pinnacle Park, Greenway Middle School or Fireside Elementary School?
  • When will the games start?  More than likely last weekend of January or first of February, running through early April.
  • Where will the games be? Each team will play two games per weekend (with an hour break in between) at one of the following locations: Reach 11 Sports Complex, Anthem Community Park, Scottsdale Sports Complex, Maricopa Copper Sky Park and Glendale Youth Sports Complex.  (Locations of the practice and game locations can be found on our Facilities page.)
  • My child has never played before, can they learn quickly, what should we do to prepare?  Yes!  Just throw and catch, throw and catch, and throw and catch some more.  Getting the basics of handling the stick and the throwing and catching routine will prepare them for a successful start to their Lacrosse career!
  • We need some lacrosse gear, where do we start? For the games, each player will need a stick, helmet, mouthguard, shoulder pads, elbow pads and gloves.  We have links to some excellent starter kits here!
