The Chester Basketball COVID 19 preparation plan was created in accordance with the New Jersey Department of Health’s Public Health Recommendations for Youth Sports (September 20, 2021). Our program’s preparation plan is regularly updated as required by the NJDOH. Updates are based on evolving guidance from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), state and local public health regulations, and COVID activity levels in the community. Revisions will be posted to the CBB website as necessary.
If you have additional questions, please contact our CBB Health and Safety Coordinator: Tom Murphy, MD (
). Highlights of the CBB COVID 19 Program Preparation Plan (as of 11/11/21):
Coaches are educated on CBB health and safety protocols prior to the start of the season
Shared practice equipment (like balls) are disinfected regularly
At this time, individuals are expected to wear an appropriate face covering at all games, scrimmages, and high-attendance events, unless engaged in physical activity. The program does not require masks for vaccinated coaches and spectators during practice, unless required by the hosting site (e.g. all Mendham school facilities)
Athletes are screened by temperature check at the start of each session (Participants with temperature >100.4 degrees will be sent home immediately)
When possible, physical distancing is encouraged for athletes, coaches, referees, and spectators
Athletes and coaches should bring their own drinks/food to athletic activities. Shared water bottles and communal food are not permitted
Quarantine and return to play:
Participants with any potential symptom of COVID MUST stay home until they are evaluated and cleared by their doctor.
Participants diagnosed with COVID MUST alert their head coach immediately
Participants who test positive MUST be cleared by their physician to return to play. In addition, participants MUST have complete resolution of symptoms and MUST be at least 10 days from their most recent positive test.
All contact tracing and determination of close contact is handled by local public health officials. When Chester Basketball is notified of a positive participant, a team will suspend operations to allow public health officials time to investigate as necessary
Any participant in our program who is identified by the health department through contact tracing as a close contact MUST alert their head coach immediately
Close contacts identified by public health officials via contact tracing will be handled as follows:
Vaccinated individuals do not need to quarantine and can continue participation without testing as long as they have no symptoms of COVID 19
Unvaccinated individuals may return to play after 7 days if they are asymptomatic and have a negative test performed at least 5 days after exposure
Unvaccinated individuals who had COVID within the previous three months, recovered from their COVID infection, and have no current symptoms of COVID do not need to quarantine
Unvaccinated individuals who choose not to undergo testing after exposure must quarantine for the full duration prescribed by the local health department
Youth sports organizations have been instructed to track the COVID vaccination status of participants. Parents of participants will be asked to provide their participant’s COVID vaccination status.
