Practices

What is the Team philosophy?
The CYO track and field program is run as part of the Catholic Youth Organization within the Oakland Diocese. It is not limited to Catholics, but we foster a Christian environment in practice and during the meets. All meets and many practices will include a prayer.

The athletic philosophy is athlete first and winning second. This philosophy means that learning, improving, and having fun are much more important than winning. Winning is not ignored, but it isn't emphasized as our primary goal. As a result we do not track attendance at practices or the meets. The primary words that capture the essence of our program are: attitude, courtesy and respect.

What qualifies an athlete to be a team member?
The criteria to be a member of the CCOP’s track and field team are as follows:
1) Live in Pleasanton, Sunol, or Dublin OR
2) Be a member of the Catholic Community of Pleasanton Parish OR
3) Be a member of the St. Raymond's Parish OR
4) Attend a parish’s CCD program (for past year)  AND
5) Have a POSITIVE ATTITUDE     (NO WHINING PLEASE!)

Cross Country is not a sport for the faint-of-heart (meaning unlike the Track & Field Program), we run three to four miles each practice and the athletes should want to be there because they enjoy the essence and sprit of running.
