Boulder Lacrosse community:

We’re pleased to announce that yet another Boulder Valley Lacrosse boys alumnus has received an offer to play collegiate lacrosse- congratulations to Liam O’Brien on his recent offer from Cornell University!

We also wanted to update you about the many BVL alumni currently playing collegiate lacrosse, as we anticipate that several more of our alumni in the 2021 graduation class will be announcing their Division I and Division III commitments soon.

HOW IT STARTED: Tim Beach and Liam O’Brien back in the day

Spring is the primary season for lacrosse.  Our 2021 Spring League registration will open on January 1st, 2021.  Demand for spring placement is always extremely high, so we strongly recommend that you register early in January to insure a position for your son.

Players of all experience levels (including beginners) are welcome to register for the BVL Spring League.  They will be placed automatically on the appropriate team for their age and experience.  You can view answers to frequently asked questions here:   Spring League FAQs

BVL Fall Ball runs on Sundays in September and October.  You will be able to register for our traditional Sunday Skills program or the CYLA Fall League.  You can find more information about Fall Ball here:  Fall Ball FAQs

Fall Ball information has been updated for 2020 and registration opened in late July.

Our Sunday Skills program consists of 6 Sunday sessions which include fast-paced drills and scrimmages, it is open to players of all ability and experience levels.  Players will be grouped appropriately with other players of similar experience and age, in order to maximize skill development and build confidence.

Alternatively, our CYLA Fall League program will include two Sunday practices, and up to 6 games on Sundays.  Fall League is designed for players with at least one season of competitive lacrosse experience, with BVL or another program.

UPDATED 10/27/2020: Due to COVID restrictions, we are not currently running our traditional BVL Winter Indoor Lacrosse programming at the Sport Stable in Superior. Historically, we have run this program on Sunday afternoons in November and December, then again in January and February.  At this time, we will not run the November- December program but will continue to evaluate the feasibility of playing in January and February.

Indoor lacrosse is a great way for players to develop skills in a fast-paced environment with quick reps and lots of touches on the ball.

Please consider volunteering with BVL as a coach, to help us meet this demand: COACH FOR BVL

CYLA Age Eligibility Rules

UPDATED for Fall 2021:  The CYLA (Colorado Youth Lacrosse Association) will continue to use June 1st as the cutoff date for age-based classification.

The CYLA has permanently adopted US Lacrosse guidelines regarding age-based classification.  Therefore Boulder Valley Lacrosse will group teams on the basis of grade with an age cutoff.

Players in the same grade will generally be grouped together, provided that they meet the June 1 birth date cutoff for that age group.  All players are required to provide official proof of birth date (birth certificate, passport, adoption papers, etc) before participating in sanctioned CYLA games.

We will set up CYLA Spring League teams at U15, U13, U12, U11, U10, U9, and U8.  All current 8th graders are eligible to play, regardless of birthdate.

A player's eligibility for the 2020 Fall or 2021 Spring season is determined by his age on May 31, 2020.

  • For example, any player born on or after June 1, 2007 is eligible to play U13.
  • A player born on or before May 31, 2007 is not eligible to play U13 and must play U15.
  • In general, we will group players on the basis of "Grade with an Age Cutoff."  This means that players in the same grade will be grouped on teams at the same age level, provided that they meet the June 1st cutoff date.
  • Players who are "young" for their grade will still be permitted to play at that age level.  For example, a 4th grader who is age-eligible for U9 (ie born after 6/1/2011) can still play U10.

NO PLAYER WILL BE PERMITTED TO "PLAY DOWN" IN AGE CLASSIFICATION AS PER CYLA RULES-- NO EXCEPTIONS.

2020 FALL- 2021 SPRING Age Classifications:

Division Born on or after Grade Equivalency Max Stick Length
  u7#  6/1/2013  1st  37-42"
  u8  6/1/2012  2nd  37-42”
  u9  6/1/2011  3rd  37-42”
  u10  6/1/2010  4th  37-42”
  u11  6/1/2009  5th  37-42”, 47-54”
  u12  6/1/2008  6th  40-42”, 52-72"
  u13  6/1/2007  7th  40-42”, 52-72"
  u15  6/1/2005*  8th  40-42”, 52-72"

 # U7 players must be born before 5/31/2014. U7 players may be grouped with U8 players for 2021 Fall Ball or 2021 CYLA Spring League.

* All current 8th graders are eligible to play for BVL, regardless of birthdate.
9th graders may participate in 2020 CYLA Fall League with BVL, but not 2021 CYLA Spring League.
