Bruins Program/Summer Hockey Update

Dear Berkshire Bruins Families,

Although the 2020-2021 season did not feel or have the same programmatic approach as past seasons, we were very proud of the competitive and developmental opportunities we were able to offer.  We also enjoyed the collaborations and partnership opportunities that presented themselves to work with the Northern Berkshire Black Bears and Berkshire Rattlers organizations.  With the 2020-2021 season in our rear view mirror, we have already turned our attention to and begun planning for a robust 2021-2022 program.

First, the summer is a wonderful time for players to continue to develop.  We want to share with you some opportunities that we are aware of and that families have recommended:

Second, REGISTRATION, REGISTRATION, REGISTRATION.  We are starting our registration process for the 2021-2022 season early this year to assist with planning.  Registration will open June 1st.  We are asking folks to register early and commit to our program.  This will allow us to finalize league affiliations, look into tournament possibilities, and plan our house league and ice schedule appropriately.

As part of the registration process, I would like to share with you a major change.  Given the financial strain placed on families of goaltenders with respect to equipment and training, we have decided as an executive committee to waive all travel program fees for goaltenders.  This is for goaltenders who are selected and make a travel team.  If you are aware of interested goaltenders, please have them contact directly.  Please note: All players will be required to pay the house league fee, USA Hockey Registration fee, and the boys and girls club membership fee as part of the 2021-2022 program.

Third, our plan is to offer a robust house league once again as well as a travel program.  With respect to the travel program, we will be limiting rosters this year for all travel teams.  Teams will be limited to a minimum of 10 skaters and one goalie and a max of 13 skaters and two goalies.  We recognize this is a change for our program but feel that this programmatic change is in the best interest of developing both the house league program and the travel team program long term.  We will host player evaluations at the beginning of the year and be transparent about the development of any teams.

We are in the midst of developing a number of options for both the house league and the travel program including weekly skills development sessions, team specific practice sessions, goaltender training sessions, etc.  We will have more information shortly about the cost of each program, what is included in each registration fee, and the anticipated schedule so families can plan effectively.

In closing, we are excited about the growth of the program and the potential for the 2021-2022 season.  If you have any questions, the Executive Committee’s contact information is available on the website.  We would love to hear from you.  Please spread the word about our program.  We are excited about our growth and would love to engage more players in the game.

Stay healthy and safe.

The Berkshire Bruins Youth Hockey Organization Executive Committee
