2020 Spring Lacrosse Season Cancelled

This week we all faced the reality that our 2020 spring is not happening as we planned due to  Governor Baker’s announcement this week that Massachusetts schools will remain “learn from home” through the end of the school year.  Following this announcement, we received notice from both the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (boys) and the Founders League (girls) that the 2020 spring lacrosse seasons are canceled.

These are certainly unprecedented times but we need to heed caution and follow state guidelines.  Ultimately, our hearts go out to our players who just want to be outside playing with their friends: 8th graders who were excited for one more year of Arlington youth lacrosse, beginners to lacrosse learning the sport for the first time, and all players waiting to take to the field.  What we don’t want to do is to have players give up on the sport, not try it for the first time, nor put their stick away till next spring.  In that vein, the club will update our website and facebook with wall ball and stick skill drills for the players to remain active in a social distancing way.

Thank you for your understanding with this update.

Stay healthy

Equipment Guidelines for Boys and Girls Lacrosse

US Lacrosse publishes a detailed equipment fitting guide which is an excellent resource for new parents and players.

Required equipment for boys lacrosse:

  • Helmet
  • Lacrosse Stick
  • Mouthguard*
  • Gloves
  • Shoulder Pads
  • Arm Protection
  • Cup/Athletic Supporter

Recommended but not required:

  • Cleats
  • Rib Pads

Required equipment for girls lacrosse:

  • Lacrosse stick
  • Goggles**
  • Mouthguard*

  • Headgear***
  • Lacrosse gloves
  • Cleats

* Mouthguards may not be clear, white or have any teeth graphics.  This is so that a referee can easily see that any player is wearing a mouthguard

** Goggle safety rules have been revised this offseason.  Please note that beginning January 1, 2017, only the newer standard, ASTM 3077, is regarded as legal for play and all eyewear equipment will have to meet this standard.  Check out the US Lacrosse website for a list of approved eyewear.

*** The use of protective headgear for girls is now allowed.  Use of this equipment is optional for 2017.  For more, check out the US Lacrosse website for legal women's headgear.
