Safe Sport Requirements (with new 2002 birth year requirements)

SAFESPORT TRAINING:

SafeSport Training

SafeSport Training is required for all adults that have regular contact with or authority over minors. As explained more fully below, includes adult-aged players on the same team with minor athletes.

Beginning this season, SafeSport is required every year rather than every other year. However, anyone who completed training in the most recent season (2018-19) will retain valid training status for 2019-20, and will complete training annually beginning in 2020-21.

A person must first take the course known as “Core Center for SafeSport Training,” which is taken online and takes approximately 90 – 120 minutes to complete. After that a “Refresher Course” is available each subsequent year for a person that has completed the Core Center for SafeSport Training. The Refresher Course takes 30 minutes or less to complete. There is no cost to members of USA Hockey to complete either training course.

Training must be completed before a person begins having regular contact with minor athletes, but no more than 45 days after beginning the role that requires them to complete training.

SafeSport Training for Players 17 and Over in Age Classifications that Allow Minor Age Players

To comply with the law requiring adults with regular contact to complete training, USA Hockey is must require that (i) all players 17 years of age or older on or before December 31 of that playing season and (ii) who play on a team in a classification that allows minor age players, complete SafeSport Training before being added to such team and prior to participation (on-ice or off-ice). This requirement shall apply to all teams in the age classifications Youth, Girls, High School, Junior Hockey, Flex Hockey and Disabled Hockey programs that allow both minor-age and adult-age players, and to officials who are turning 17 before December 31.

Players and officials that will be 17 when they complete training must obtain parental permission. We have incorporated a parental consent into the player registration, and will communicate with those that registered with USA Hockey prior to the consent being included.

First, you must register as coach, referee, or volunteer on the USAH website, a membership number is required for the training. https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

Once registration has been completed, then please proceed to the SafeSport training page.

Volunteer Requirements

Volunteer Requirements

LAHA Adult Volunteer registration is open and ready for the 2019-2020 season- volunteers must register- it's free.

USAH requires volunteers to have a background screening as well as SafeSport Training (takes about 2 hrs.) prior to any volunteer activity.

These are mandatory and are good for two years. If you completed a SafeSport training two years ago, then you only need to complete the refresher course this year (not as long as initial training).

If you are someone who falls within the listed positions below, please complete these items ASAP.

PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE POST- there are links and instructions you must follow.

Per the USA Hockey Safe Sport Program Handbook those who need to be screened include:

1. Members of the LAHA Board of Directors

2. Local program administrators

3. Coaches

4. Team managers

5. Officials (over 18)

6. Locker room monitors

7. Travel chaperones

8. Anyone with regular, routine or frequent access to youth participants

9.  NEW THIS YEAR--the requirement that players born in 2002 will be required to complete Safesport

We may require that additional persons be screened.

BACKGROUND SCREENING:

Please check to see if your name appears on http://www.newmexicohockey.org/page/show/829216-good-to-go the "Good To Go" list first.

Screenings are good for 2 years, and you may have been cleared for this season already from a previous screening. Only proceed if your name doesn't appear on the list or if it is in RED.

Screenings cost a considerable amount of money, please only do them every two years.

If your name doesn't appear, please proceed to the link below, this part is very quick.

The website is: https://loeaha.volunteerportal.net/    password: hockeyiscool

Please remember, the background screenings can take 2 - 4 business days, and then have to be manually entered on the LOEAHA site. Therefore, should you not see your name on the list after 4 days, please email me directly before running another unnecessary screening.

SAFESPORT TRAINING:

This part takes a couple of hours, but is required.

First, you must register as coach, referee, or volunteer on the USAH website, a membership number is required for the training. https://www.usahockeyregistration.com/login_input.action

Once registration has been completed, then please proceed to the SafeSport training page.

http://www.usahockey.com/safesporttraining

Please keep a copy of your training certificate for your records.
