Good afternoon parents,
I wanted to welcome you to the Fall AA Brewers team. I have been coaching multiple sports including Arlington Little League for about five years.
Team assignments are pretty much set. We will have 12 players on the team this fall. I look forward to working with your children to have fun and continue to improve baseball skills.
Paul Donato and Ivy Horan will once again be assistant coaches, but we can use all the help we can get. Please let me know if you would be willing to help out, especially at practices, as we often need an extra body or three to help.
Games start on 11 September and run through 13 November.
Practice will start this Wednesday! We have the Lee Center field (5277 Lee Highway; same one as last seaon) from 5 - 6 pm on Wednesdays.
The players will require a glove and an athletic cup/supporter (for playing catcher). The league will provide uniform hats and shirts. Baseball cleats, baseball pants and socks are optional, but most players wear them. The league will also provide catchers equipment, batting helmets, and bats. If you have personal equipment for your player, the bat should have a USA Baseball label on it to be legal for Little League.
Differences from Single A
Kids will have the opportunity to pitch this year. Kids will normally start pitching in games around week 4. There will also be a focus on players staying in the batters box and not stepping out. The focus will be on teaching the players how to take a pitch should they get hit with a pitched ball. The kids will be taught to turn their back and drop their bat. This is at the request of the League and the Commissioner. I will send out the rules once received.
When on the practice or game field, no one will have a bat in their hands unless they are in the batters box. ALL does not allow a batters box to warm up. If a player brings their own bat then its expected to have a USA Baseball label on it and be placed on the fence with the other bats. I recommend adding a name on personal bats and helmets.
During games, pitchers may only warm up with the catcher who is wearing a mask. No adult is allowed to warm up a pitcher. Also, pitchers will be limited to 40 pitches in a game. This means they will only pitch for one inning maximum.
Please make sure the players bring a water bottle to practices and games.
As noteda above, during the season, volunteers will be needed during practices and games. If you are interested in assisting please let me know or know that I may ask you to assist if you attend. We will be having stations at practices working on hitting using a tee, pitching, and fielding. During games, we will need a bench coach and base coaches. I do not believe snacks will be allowed again this season due to COVID restrictions, but I will ask during the coaches meeting.
Thank you very much for signing to play Arlington Little League and I look forward to seeing everyone for the first practice.
I normally set the practice plan and the game line a day in advance. Please let me know in advance if your player will not be able to make it -- either shoot me a text or e-mail. Fall Baseball is more laid back than Spring and meant to focus on fundamentals and trying out new positions, and, now, pitching. Everyone will get a chance to play every position this Fall.
Please let me know if you have any questions. If you want someone else added to the team distribution let me know. I have used the e-mail addresses you provided at registration. I am looking forward to a fun Fall Season.
