[I've heard from a number of people they did not receive this email. Resending. If possible, please drop me an email to let me know you you've seen it and to let me know your kid's status with the team. Thank you! -Eric P.]
Hello 2027/28 Avalanche,
Aaaand we're back! Partially anyway... The basic plan is as follows:
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 7 - 8:30 PM at South Valleys adult baseball field, with a prompt start and on-time ending. This is the baseball field all the way back at the end of the road behind the yellow library. We'll be working in the outfield and have the field to ourselves.
We are going to start this Thursday, June 18, at 7 PM. Short notice, so if you cannot make this one, no problem.
Practices are non-contact and will have a scheme to maintain separation. They will be very footwork and skills oriented and we'll keep it moving. Should be great for the players, but may be more "work" than we would usually go for at this age. We will do best to make it fun. The kids will get a lot more skill development than they normally would. This is a good thing and a small silver-lining, but they probably won't see it that way.
For this Thursday, practice will be sticks and cleats only. No gloves. No helmets. Masks are required and will only come off for water breaks and, potentially, some fitness. We will mostly be using soft balls this practice. Please make sure your kid brings their own water bottle. There will be none otherwise. I will be posting the schedule after this email and will indicate what players should bring on the schedule.
Parents are supposed to just drop kids off and pick them up from their cars, and not gather in groups at the field or anywhere else. We'll make sure all players are accounted for at the end of practice. (We always do anyway.) Maybe designate a parking spot or something. We'll have to play that part by ear a little. Please remind your little people to maintain separation from each other coming-and-going as well as at practice. This is unnatural for them of course, but we'll have to fight through it. Also, no shared equipment between players...
If your child would like to play goalie, please send me an email. They will always need full equipment, including mouthpiece and cup. We have goalie sticks, neck guards, and chest protectors. We need to know goalies are, if any, at least 24 hours before practice. Practices won't require goalies.
An email has been sent out from the league with all of the detailed rules and prerequisites to participate. Please be sure to read, understand, and complete those things.
Last thing: I have cc'd all nominated players with this email, in addition to those that registered, because we only had a single practice previously. If you'd like to participate, please register for the team prior. If you'd like to apply an existing balance from your spring fees, that can be done as well. Just send me an email and I'll coordinate.
It's important we know how many players to expect at practices. We may set up an RSVP system if really necessary, but would like to avoid the complexity if we can.
If you are registered and your status has changed for any reason, please let me know. Hope all is well with you and your families. Look forward to seeing you and your little people.
