The boys had a good practice tonight!
I am working on stabilizing the sessions between drills during the first half of the practice followed by a scrimmage and free throw practice as a cool down. I think that this formula should work pretty well, but I will continue to assess and reassess as we go.
Tonight we did the following:
Dribbling and shooting drill. The boys took turns dribbling down the court and shot from two spots on one goal, then dribbled back up the court and shot at two spots on the opposite goal. Both spots are in the "high percentage" category, so hopefully that practice will come in handy on Saturday.
Dribbling and lay ups. Basically the same as the first drill, but the boys layed the ball up and in (mostly).
Three on three passing and defense. The boys took turns defending, passing and shooting in threes. Will probably not use this one again - scrimmage is better.
Knock-out! We played one round to break things up a bit - always popular...
Scrimmage. I bought some pennies/layovers/whatever for the boys so I can keep the teams straight. Since we have nine players now, I rotated one player out every two minutes during the session. A actively coached during the entire game. I think this will be pretty effective going forward.
That was it!
Our game in Saturday against the Red Team, which thrashed the tar out of us during out second Jamboree game. 😠 Game starts at 5:15, so let's assemble at 5:00. As James Brown sang: "I need some payback!"
See you on Saturday!
