Wilcox Energy Doughnuts Powers the Warriors to Victory!
by posted 05/15/2021

Huey Lewis famously sang the Power of Love... But, have you heard the News about the power of Doughnuts???

In a see-saw affair, our Wilcox Energy Warriors pulled away late to come out on top over the E. Haddam Sea Dogs 11-6. At 7-1, 'dem salty dogs answered quickly to pull within 1 run. After an inning of personal (and team) reflection, the bats came alive once again, spurring a 4-run rally late, cementing the W for our bright orange ballers.

In the batter's box, no one shined brighter than #12 Drew C. going 3 for 3 and stinging every ball he saw. Heck, even his foul balls were scorched down the line. This young lad received a well-deserved game ball! Way to go Drewski!!!

Your humble reporter had to ask Drew's dad what he fed this young leader for breakfast and I'm pleased to report it was the power of doughnuts that fueled the hot bat! In the immortal words of Yogi, if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

Early hits by Liam C., Andrew S. - known to most as Squillatore - and Valen C. who ripped one up the middle set the table early and helped the Warriors take the lead from jump street!

Ryan SS (for Shortstop) was smoooooth in the field with multiple 6-to-3 put outs and closed the game out a la Rivera. He even had the famed Metallica nighttime ballad blaring as he came charging out of the Pen!

Dylan C. was everything you want from a starter. Gritty, unfazed, and throwing strikes all day. Even when the balls in play didn't bounce the Warrior's way, Dylan dug deep and focused on the next task at hand. Great job and a deserved W on the ole pitching record.

What can you say about Elijah V. that you don't already know? Behind those brown eyes is a determined ballplayer who laced a line-drive single to left, scored a run, and caught ALL game, keeping those feisty Sea Dogs base runners at bay. By block, scoop, or dare I say, shoop, Elijah simply got it done back there!

Michael L. and Ryer F. continued to rack up big experience and be amazing teammates throughout and Travis B. drew a walk, stole a base, and showed off the arm from RF on multiple occasions - keep shining boys!!!

And let's all celebrate Joseph St. O. for shaking off a HBP, and then hustling around the base paths on multiple plays to score a CRUCIAL run for our Warriors. We're proud of you, Joseph!

Teams are made up of individuals and perform together as a unit. Each one of our boys kept their heads and spirits high and the energy from our Wilcox Warriors was news that even Huey would certainly care to croon about.

On 3 Warriors... 1, 2, 3 Warriors!!!

Warriors Win Big 8-1 v. Rival Clinton
by posted 05/12/2021

Our Wilcox Energy Warriors strode to a convincing 8-1 victory over a spirited Clinton team. The day, and the mound, belonged to the young southpaw from the southside of town, Jackson Bonner, hurling 5 1/3 innings, only allowing a smattering of Clinton baserunners throughout the affair, amidst 8Ks. Ryan Sacco came in to shut the door in the top of the 6th, sealing the W.

Behind Bonner was the absolutely stellar defense by Sacco, Squillacote, Velez, Dylan Cocchiola, and others. Not many balls left the infield, yet the attentiveness of Joseph St. Onge, Travis Bloom, Liam Cassidy, and others was on full display - a true team W!

It wasn't Casey at the bat, but it was big #35, Ryan Sacco, hitting a single, double, and triple on his way to knocking in 4. Elijah Velez was never not on base making things happen all afternoon long. Great ABs by Valen Clark and Michael Livernoche uplifted the team's spirit further and the return of Drewski, Drewmanji, Drewbacca himself, Drew Cocchiola kept everyone fired up with his patented enthusiasm for the game.

Finally, a mad base dasher emerged and this reporter would be remiss to not retell that the sliding stylings of one Ryer Furcolo were only outdone by his amazing hair and infectious smile. Ryer "Smooth Slide'n" Furcolo had a great day out there, reminding us all that hard work and quality practice shows up on the diamond!

A lovely team win, well done boys!!!
