Team Petrik:
Great practice this past Monday.   Everyone had a good time, was good listeners, and did a great job fielding/batting/pitching/running.  Coach Mark and I are looking forward to our fist game on Tuesday, April 13th – 5:15 @ Donovan Field.

We expect this practice to last closer to 1 hour.  We will work on fielding, pitching and kids hitting off one another.   In addition, we expect to have hats and shirts at this practice.

Enjoy the week and weekend!

Welcome to Team Petrick AAA
by posted 04/01/2021

Team Petrick:

Welcome to Milton National Little League AAA – and welcome back to all of you who had participated last year.  My name is Matthew Pukel, and I will be coaching with Mark Gaffney.  Your child will be playing for Team Petrick.

To provide you a quick background about Mark and myself…

My wife Leigh and I have 3 children – Elana (14), Marcus (13) and Ian (10).  All my kids attend the Milton school system, and participate in varying sports between Hockey, Soccer, Babe Ruth, and AAA. I have been an assistant coach in the past for AA /AAA with my older son, and am looking forward to taking on the coaching role.

Mark and his wife, Bridget, have been living in Milton for 13 years with their three kids (Avery (11), Oscar (9) and Cora (6)) , and their four-legged friend (Blaze (5)).  Bridget coaches soccer and Mark coaches both flag football and baseball, so you may have seen their names on rosters in the past.

Our goal for the kids this year is 3 fold:

  1. We want all the kids to have fun and look back on this year with good memories and new friends.
  2. Yes, we would like to win some games – maybe even the final game.  But more importantly, we want the kids to learn, not just about baseball, but about teamwork, commitment and resilience, because they will win some times and lose other times.  After every game, Mark and I will huddle the kids together and ask them 2 questions --- 1. What did we do well?, 2. What could we have done differently?
  3. We want the kids to grow as baseball players and being supportive teammates.  Supporting their teammates when they hit a grand slam home run, or if they strike out in the bottom of the 6th with bases loaded.

For the parents, just a few housekeeping items:

  1. Please do your best to make practice.  If you are unable to attend, please just let us know.  We realize life is busy, but the kids will have a lot more fun throughout the season if they can work together outside of the games.
  2. Games – Please get your child there at least 15 minutes before game time.  If your child cannot attend a game, please let Mark and myself know prior to the game so that we can set the line-ups.  The game schedule is located on the MNLL website.  You can download direct to your calendar.
  3. Umpires/officials – Most umpires are kids who have gone through MNLL, and are going to make mistakes.  Remember, they are doing their best, and I know parents will be supportive of these kids, even when the call is “questionable”.
  4. Masks / social distancing – we are still in a pandemic, so the kids will be expected to wear masks at all times.  More to follow on this once the season gets underway.
  5. Volunteers – if one or two of you are willing to help out, we definitely could use it.  You don’t need to be a baseball expert by any stretch.  If you are comfortable coaching either first or third base, that would be great.  If not, just having someone who keeps the flow going when the kids are in the dugout is a huge help.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to Mark or myself.   We will be in touch shortly regarding our teams 1st practice.

Go Team Petrick!
