by posted 01/19/2020

Hi Parents and Players!

Practices this week are Monday 1/20 from 6-8:30 at Nicollet Middle School and Thursday 1/23 from 6-9 at Nicollet Middle School. Please note the changes- our practice Tuesday was moved to Monday and the practice Thursday is ending at 9. From 8:30-9 on Thursday we will be watching some footage of our tournament. Thanks to Brooke Nemo for sharing this with us! Players, please make sure you have a notebook with you to write down some observations from the footage.

Reminder that Friday at 7 is our team dinner at JL Beers. This is a good time for us to continue to build relationships prior to the two day tournament this weekend.

Big City Luau Information

We play in the AM pool on Saturday at Osseo High School. This means we will start at 8 AM on Court 2. Players, you need to arrive no later than 7:15 AM. It appears we are the "D" seed in our pool; this means our schedule should be sit, play, play, sit, play, ref. We will sit and watch the first match together as a team, In our pool is Cannon Falls 17-1, Minneapolis Vibe 17 Black, and Club Tonka 17-2.

This is the link if you want more information about the tournament: https://www.kokorovolleyball.com/big-city-luau

Here is the link to the schedule: we are in the 17s Classic Division, under the All 17s tab https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LhWEyCCzxWYNPlzIsPbruURZR2E5W0du/view

Osseo High School

317 2nd Ave NW

Osseo, MN 55369

There are no specific parking instructions. Admissions are $7 for adults and $5 for children.

Depending on how we do in pool play on Saturday will determine our location for Sunday. If we place 1st or 2nd in our pool, we will be at Augsburg University in Minneapolis at 8 AM. If we place 3rd or 4th in our pool, we will be back at Osseo High School at 8 AM.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions.

Friday Dinner 7pm and more...
by posted 01/14/2020

Hi Everyone,

Wanted to get you all an update.

1. The family dinner will be at JLBeers at 7pm on Friday.  They have a large room in the back that can seat up to 30-40 people.  I will need to know how many people will be coming from your family by Friday at 11 am to let the restaurant know. Please either email here or let me know on WhatsApp.

2. Speaking of WhatsApp...it is up and running, and we have almost all parents on.  If you want someone else from your family added, let me know and I will add them.

3. Blankets...we will be making them at the next tournament on the weekend of Jan 25-26th.  We got our fabric at Hobby Lobby at 40% off and they said they have that sale frequently.  (2 yards should be enough, we got 2.5 yards and that will fit nicely on a twin bed...up to you)

Let me know if you have any other questions ;-)

Final Tournament Update
by posted 01/11/2020

Parents and Players,

Thank you so much for your patience with us this week regarding our tournament schedule. I'm pleased to share that we have finalized our schedule for the season. To replace Frostbite Festival in Rochester, we WILL be competing in the 2-day Big City Luau tournament run by Kokoro Volleyball on January 25th and 26th. Where we play within the Twin Cities will be shared with you all soon. For reference, at Big City Luau there is a cost for entry ($7 for adults and $5 for children). As usual, once I have more tournament information I will share with you all as soon as possible.

Lastly, we are hoping to schedule a team dinner on Friday January 17th. Please watch for an email/post from our team manager Jessica for more information.

Again, thank you all for your support and patience with us as we navigated this situation. Looking forward to an awesome start of the tournament season tomorrow!

Please reach out with any questions or concerns you have.

Hello all,

I'm reaching out to you because last night we received news that the space in the Duluth tournament that we thought was available had been filled and the tournament closed registration. Therefore we will NOT be competing in Duluth next weekend as we had originally hoped. I understand that parents may have booked rooms and I urge you to cancel reservations if you can.

Jim and Whitney are working to find our team a new tournament, but it likely won't be until sometime later in the season, due to registration deadlines and our current tournament schedule as it stands. As soon as I have information, I will reach out. Unfortunately, I am in meetings and have student appointments/classroom visits today, so I will be unable to respond to questions until after 7PM tonight. If you have immediate concerns or questions, I recommend you contact Whitney Markson (wjmarkson14@gmail.com). If you do email Whitney, please CC me on those emails (sarahcodner6@gmail.com) and I will also do my best to support you. I'm sure you all have questions and I will do my best to answer them. Please know that as soon as I have information, I do my best to share it with you as soon as possible.

I am so incredibly sorry all of this has happened. Please know that Michael and I are also frustrated with the situation and are working with Jim and Whitney to resolve these issues and find a new tournament for our team. I appreciate the flexibility you all have with us and the grace that you are showing with the situation. I will do what I can to provide as much feedback as possible.

Looking forward to seeing everyone on Sunday for our first tournament!

Additional Information

Parents and Players

Thank you for reaching out with your questions. I have included the new options for our team below for you to consider and decide what you think is best for our team and your family. We understand how frustrating this is and please know we are doing everything we can to resolve the issue.

In regards to cancelling the hotel, if you are able to, please feel free to cancel. We will not be attending the tournament in Rochester next weekend.

The following are the 3 options for our team to replace Frostbite Festival. Please note that there are different days and tournament lengths to consider.

1. There is a tournament on Sunday 1/19 in Duluth that we could attend. This would mean an overnight stay on Saturday 1/18. This would then give us another out of town tournament. However, the facilities for this tournament are not as good as other places.
2. There is a 1 day Heartland tournament in Monticello on Sunday 1/26. These tournaments are typically well run and in good facilities. However, I know that this is not the same weekend as originally planned.
3.  There is a 2 day Big City Luau tournament the weekend of the 25th-26th. This tournament is located in the cities, so no hotel stay would be required. However, it does give us the chance to participate in another 2 day tournament, instead of just a 1 day option.

Please come tonight with your questions and thoughts, or share with your girls if you are unable to attend. You can also email or text me your opinions and we will make sure that your voice is heard. Obviously, attendance is not mandatory, but highly recommended. The meeting should not go much longer than 9 PM.

Thanks again for your flexibility everyone! We really do appreciate it.

Parent Meeting TONIGHT
by posted 01/09/2020

Parents and Players

Our practice tonight is at Nicollet from 6-8:30, to be immediately followed by the parent meeting at 8:30. Due to some mishaps with the tournament and our club, it is HIGHLY UNLIKELY that we will be participating in the Frostbite Festival next weekend, as our team was placed on the waitlist. We will discuss more specifics tonight at this parent meeting. Players, you will also be attending this meeting. I will also be sharing information about our upcoming tournament tonight as well, but have posted information below. If you are unable to attend the meeting, I will post the results of the conversation and decisions in another post tonight after practice. Thank you all for your cooperation and support. I do apologize for the lateness of this communication, but Michael and I only found out yesterday afternoon and had to get more information before we could call together a meeting.

We are the C seed in Pool 1 on Court 1. This means we play the first match, then sit, then ref, then play 2 matches, then sit. After our initial pool, we will move to bracket play, which we will determine based on how well we do in the pool play. Bethel University is located at 3900 Bethel Drive in Arden Hills. The tournament is held at the Sports & Rec. Center. For directions visit our website at www.gocrossfire.org and click on Locations. Doors open at 7:15 AM- players need to be ready at Court 1with all their gear on no later than 7:30, but must arrive promptly at the facility at 7:15 so we can establish a team camp. According to Crossfire, admissions for the tournament are $7 for adults, $5 students & seniors, children 5 & under free. Additionally, concessions are available onsite including lunch items – no outside food allowed (however, you can typically put some snacks into a player's bag without any issues). Bethel and Crossfire would also like us to note that limited parking is available at the Sports & Recreation Center. Use Parking Lot #9 as an alternate.

As always, please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Since starting my new job, the easiest way to reach me is through text message (651-328-1353) as I am often not at my desk during the day to respond to emails. However, I will do my best to check it periodically throughout the day. Thank you all for your flexibility and understanding.

Uniform Update
by posted 01/08/2020

Hello Parents & Players,

I have an update on the uniform & other player items for everyone! Unfortunately, contrary to the 4 week guarentee, the company we ordered the uniforms (Asics) will be unable to deliver the jerseys on time for the tournaments this weekend. Obviously this is a problem! So the plan for all of the teams is that all the players will wear their practice jerseys. The practice jerseys all have the player's numbers on the back, so it should work for one tournament.

All of the remaining player items are ready, including spandex & socks, and will be delivered to Thursday's practice. The coaches will also receive libero "jerseys" to be used this weekend as well, so if your player is a libero, she will also have her uniform for this weekend covered. The real jerseys are scheduled to be delivered on Monday and we will get those to the players as soon as possible.

Sorry for all of this inconvenience! Please let me know if you have any questions!
