U13 Select Team Information
by posted 02/17/2020

We are very excited to share the details of our boys U13 Select program for the 2020 season.  Dan Nguyen will be the coach for the U13 Select Team.

  • Coaches’ evaluations for our Select team have been ongoing during indoor and we are down to the last four Thursday indoor practices 2/27, 3/5, 3/12 & 3/19. (No indoor during Feb. Vacation Week 2/20)

  •  If you would like your player considered for the Select team, please respond to this email (

  • This will allow us to make sure we capture the appropriate data for players who can commit to the additional 1 practice/week and Friday (sometimes Saturday) competitive lacrosse games.

  • Players who aren't evaluated at an indoor session cannot be considered for the Select team. Formal evaluation is mandatory for consideration for the Select team.

  •  It is expected that players accepting a spot on Select have lacrosse as their PRIMARY sport.  Additionally, 100% participation at Select practice and Select games is expected except in the event of a confirmed school activity.

  • There will be a “play time” consequence for players missing practice or games.

  • 2019 Select Tuition is currently “to be determined”.  Select tuition will be split into two payments due April 1 and May 1.

  • First Select practice date is to be determined.

  • Select Practices will be held on Saturday mornings, from 9-10:30am at King Fields

  • The first Select games are Friday, April 5.

  •  In addition to 2x per week “Classic” practices and “Classic” games on Sunday, Select practice will be 1x per week with games mostly on Friday night (with some Saturday)

  • The MBYLL Select season runs from April to June with playoffs.

  • Commitment calendars will be shared with families as soon as possible.

We look forward to sharing schedules and details as they become available and please reach out if you have ANY questions.

Please remember to respond to this email if your son would like to be evaluated for a possible placement on FYL Select Lax Program. Please include:

  • Player Name

  • Player Grade

  • Position (this just gives us an idea of the players interest, it does not guarantee the position they could be placed in.)

Boys U13 – Classic League

  • Philosophy:  We provide a positive, instruction-oriented program for girls both new to the sport and provide skill training to those who have played before.
  • We believe that lacrosse should be fun for the players, and provide a foundation for building character that will instill teamwork, discipline, integrity, sportsmanship and respect to other players, coaches and parents.
  • grades 5 & 6 - we expect at least two boys teams this year at this level
  • Teams are mixed by grade
  • Teams are balanced by ability - no "A", "B" team – as “equal” as possible
  • (optional) indoor sessions at Forekicks in Marlboro on Thursday nights from 7-8 starting January 9 and going through March - week off for Feb vacation
  • Equipment:   All practices - indoor and outdoor are "real" practices and players are expected to have all required equipment.    Link to our list of equipment
  • 2 practices per week starting when the Town releases the fields which is entirely dependent on weather - hopefully by end of March
  • Metrowest games on Sunday starting end of March/early April - depends on other Towns and field availability
  • end of season MBYLL Fort Devens Jamboree in mid-June
  • The focus is learning the game and having fun
  • Equal play time
  • at this time we have NO dates or times - we are almost entirely volunteer based so practices days/times are entirely dependent on field availability and volunteer coach personal schedules
  • Uniforms
    • Prior season uniforms can be re-used
    • New uniforms can be purchased from Brine Sporting Goods with locations in Maynard and Concord
  • Boys U13 Select team:
    • Add’l tuition
    • One more practice/week
    • Participation at one of three FYL Tryouts required – team rosters are capped
    • One add’l competitive game/week – play to win – no guaranteed play time
    • Standings are kept with play offs/championship
    • Two end of June/early July tournaments
    • “Classic” players are eligible for call ups for no fee
