2020 Registration Now Open

NYL Families,

Registration for the Spring ‘20 season is open!

Uniforms:

We are very excited to have new uniforms this year!  The new uniforms will have the players last name and be of better quality than prior years.  Uniforms are NOT included in our registration fees and must be ordered separately.  The link to our uniform store can be found under the “Uniform Purchase” tab on our website.   **Tip -Register Early – Jersey Numbers are first come first served.  We cannot accommodate number requests.

As part of your registration players will receive a “shooter shirt” as well as “gift”

What do you need to know?

We are part of the Mass Bay Youth Lacrosse League (MBYLL).  Grades 3/4 (U11), Grades 5/6 (U13) and Grades 7/8 (U15) teams play eight Sunday games beginning the first week of April. Pre-season indoor/artificial turf field practices begin late Feb/Early March (we will commence our season earlier this year in order to better prepare for the season, and match other local town programs start dates).

Gr1/2 program (U9) This introductory "learn to play" program is offered for young players who want to develop their fundamental skills while learning the basics of the sport, with a heavy focus on FUN!  1st grade will practice twice per week with Saturday morning in-town scrimmages, along with one or two local out-of-town games.  2nd grade will practice twice per week with 6 scheduled travel games on Sundays. Fundamentals of the game are taught by emphasizing fun and cooperation.  All Gr 1/2 players wear NYL uniforms and practice at the same time and place.

Practices are held twice a week on weeknights. There are opportunities for players in grades 5 through 8 to play more competitive lacrosse by trying out for one of our “Select” teams, in addition to our “Classic” program, detail for which we will provide in mid-winter.

For more information on our boys program, please visit NYL’s Boys Program Overview.

Fees and financial aid:

2020 Season costs are as follows: Grades 1/2 are $225, Grades 3/4 and 5/6 are $275 and Grades 7/8 are $250.  We offer multi-player discounts for families as well as a “family super cap” of $500.  Scholarships are available for those with financial need as we are committed to providing all Newton kids the chance to play lacrosse.  Requests for financial aid should be made directly to registrarnyl@gmail.com and will be handled with discretion.

How to register:

Go to the “Registration” tab of our website's vertical menu, new players need to first create a NYL identity. Also, a current MBYLL registration is required to complete NYL registration. Our registration page contains a link to the MBYLL site, make sure to record your player ID and confirmation numbers as that will be needed for our on-line forms. It’s not tricky, just follow the instructions.

Why register so early?

It's early to be planning for the spring, we get that. However, we are required by MBYLL to enter our teams in mid-January, which limits our flexibility to extend registration into late winter. In recent years we have been oversubscribed and had to place players on wait lists.  Also, new uniforms with customization are available at a first come, first serve basis.

We need help:

NYL is an entirely volunteer-led organization, it simply doesn’t work without dedicated helpers. Lacrosse experience is not necessary to assist with coaching, we’re looking for leaders and we have access to excellent coach training. We also have several important open administrative positions. Please email larry.casillo@gmail.com if you want to join the NYL team.

Thank you to all of our returning families, and welcome to our new ones.  Please sign up early and spread the word to your friends and neighbors, it’s never too late to start playing lacrosse.  We’ll be working hard in the coming months to prepare for the season, and while we can’t make any promises on the early spring weather, we do know the lacrosse will be great and your kids will have fun!
